Stella's Social Club

Mary is on her way home with her 5 new birds.

Unfortunately, my welsummer competition was a no show. I only had 1 barnevelder hen for competition. I really wanted my birds judged against others. Ah well, my birds will now be judged against the class.

Sorry Mary-

You have to realize I haven't had a working refrigerator since last Sat night. You know what THAT means - no ice cream. The guy had to fix 3 outlets in the kitchen yesterday to get it (and microwave, toaster oven & fridge working). Nothing was in the refrigerator cause I had to dump everything. I still don't know if the freezer is cold enough yet. We are supposed to get 8-10 inches of snow tomarrow so my brother is doing a mercy run to pick me up and take me to grocery store. I will only get essentials (ice cream, ready to bake cookies, milk) because I'm broke until 2-3-15.

Please forgive me!!

PS forgetting things is your most endearing quality - you are so good at everything you do - forgetfulness brings you down to our level

Think I better stop now before I "step in it" again.
Thanks for the weather reminder. I had to go out and get groceries.

That's too bad about the competition. Good luck with the class judging.

My birds (both breeds) got best of breed and reserve breed. I got some good feedback from Walt and I'm looking forward to speaking with the judge when he's finished judging the bantams.

Best continental went to a silver spangled Hamburg. Reserve continental went to a white crested blue polish.

I'm amazed at what people do to prep for a show. Baby oil on legs and combs. And when you walk by the white silkies, you smell baby powder.

I work the yearling sales in Saratoga Springs for the farm where I am office mgr.. They are going to be race horses but yearlings at the high end sales are all about looking perfect. If there is a blemish on white ankles or face, they use white-out and/or shoe polish. They also use baby oil on faces.

that's true, you will see exhibitors(dog shows) openly flaunting the rules - dyeing black noses (on pink nosed dogs), dyeing out white blazes on solid colored, etc. etc. I wonder how AKC reps never seem to notice the same offenders week after week. My friend who had champion African violets - that need a full head of bloom- said exhibitors glued blossoms back on with clear egg white. Sheesh not like you are going to get hefty stud fees for violet pollen.
