Stella's Social Club

Yikes we have been without power since early this morning. I have eggs in the incubator 9 days from hatch! I ran them over to the old house in the Hovabator but the lights on the appliances were flashing so I knew the power had been off over there too. I plugged them in anyway and took off to town for some supplies. When I got back to the old house the power was off! I grabbed to Hovabator and headed home. I risked my life waking Michael up to plug in the generator. We plugged the Brinsea cabinet in and within a couple of minutes it was beeping and 114 degrees! I grabbed the eggs out again and put them back into the Hovabator and dialed it in. Michael went back to bed. He got up at 1:45 this afternoon after I froze in the dark with nothing to do all day. He plugged the Brinsea back into the generator and it jumped back to 113. The eggs stayed in the Hovabotor until the power was restored an hour ago.

As for my coops, yesterday was all a huge waste of time, energy and money. The Dry Stall was soaked through, 50 lbs of feed ruined again and the chickens were soaking wet on the roosts. The coop maker built the coops with the roof metal facing front to back instead of side to side. You can see what I am referring to in the pictures. The driving rain just pour in through those holes in the roof, front and back. We are weighing our options but I think I am going to get a bid from the coop builer to re-roof them with the metal going the opposite direction with a little overhang. Michael is cheap and wants to just put tarps over them or fill the holes with expanding foam. I need ventilation in there with the way I have closed the coops up. I am totally discouraged and dreading shoveling out 600 lbs (dry weight) of wet sand.
So sorry you are having so much trouble.... We have gotten alot of rain for sure. Enough already !!!!

WOW! I LOVE all the pictures.... So really Beautiful Birds..

Cute Kathy!

I got 4 loaves of zucchini bread done and all my laundry done. Took some treats out to the chickens when the rain stopped - they were very happy to get out and stretch their wings.

Two things happened today. Stella got out of the run and a huge pit bull was running loose on our deck! Luckily the events didn't coincide or it would have been tragic. Well, the storm blew it over into the run and Miss Stella took her shot at freedom. I was so panicked because when I went looking for her after seeing her in the yard, I couldn't find her. We looked all over. Finally I checked inside the coop and there she was, up on the roost like nothing happened.

Regarding the pit bull, why the heck won't people keep them on their own property. Every house I have owned for the last 20 years has been a pit bull nightmare.

I have been promised for weeks now that the netting over the runs would be secured. It is just draped over presently. Michael made me swear that she was actually outside the run and not just up next to the fence before he agreed to secure that part of the net with a couple of hog rings. Unbelievable. He is absolutely too lazy for words.

Kill that da** pit bull, pronto! I hate those dogs, and I don't care what any dog lover says about them. Don't take any chances, Mary. We all love our Stella, Isi, and Lukka... and we don't want to lose them.

The d**n dog was just back! Michael chased it off our property again. I called animal control, and of course they are closed because it is a weekend. So begins the pit bull hell in this house. Why did I think it would be any different?

Mary, Unfortunately, you will need to put that dog down, double bag it and then dispose of it in a land fill.

Still waiting on a message or a phone call on the Icelandics... I know that at least 5 of the 7 hatched.

I also have the possibility of getting 7 newly hatched Ameraucanas from excellent show lines with very BLUE eggs. (blue and splash)
My wheaties have just stopped laying completely and I miss the blue eggs.
