My mom said she tried a persimmon once and her mouth all puckered up - so she never tried again.

After handling the pulp to make the bread my fingers and hands were shriveled up like I had been in the pool too long. Today they feel like sandpaper. Really astringent fruit!

Would wearing nitrile gloves help?

I use them when I chop habaneros--so that I do not get it into my eyes....

I had a friend who told me about her husband helping her make salsa by chopping the jalapenos - no gloves. He did wash his hands (not very well apparently), then jumped in the shower and as he was soaping himself up found out in a very delicate area that he had not cleaned his hands well enough

Sometimes gloves fold back over as you take them off too. So, just saying, wash before you wash.
