I just had a lonely egg hatch. I had a few in from my last rooster I got to keep for while, then he started crowing non stop. Yep, back yard chickens here. Jealous of all of you with land. Nah, happy for you all :) Here is my baby. There are two in with it that are a bit older..they get along now, as Mike knows. :)

Dad was an OE, mom a RSL. Looks to be a little girl, if I were to go by the color. No green feet, but the comb is a pea comb! Cute. Both parents were really sweet birds.

Happy .. good luck with your broody's. Hope you get some chicks. Will you thin out the flock when the babies get older?

Between Cynthia's lone chick, muttsfan's hatches, and Kelly's broodies, there should be no shortage of chick pictures for awhile! congrats all around! :clap

I will keep the ones I want, then rehome the rest. I put some barnevelders and olive eggers under one broody and welsummer and olive eggers under my other broody. My egg customers really like the green eggs. My olive eggers over my barnevelder rooster (they lay pale olive) have somehow turned out sex linked. Some hatch blue or black (one olive egger is splash) and those are female. Others hatch with a barnevelder pattern, and all of those so far have been males.
