I make fruitcake every year for my parents and my ex-husband. They all love fruitcake but hate the store bought kind. I use Alton Brown's Free Range Fruitcake recipe from the Food Network. It doesn't use any candied fruit, just dried fruit. It is delicious but should be made about three weeks ahead of time and basted or spritzed with brandy every couple of days or so. I spritz with a mixture of unfiltered apple juice and brandy to make it less boozy for my tee-totaling parents. Right now it is a little dry but when I get the spritzing going it will moisten up. I love fruitcake too and keep one for myself. I free thin slices individually wrapped and enjoy them with my coffee.
Maybe we could barter a fruitcake for personal trimming of my Christmas beef tenderloins? Which BelAir does hubby work at?
