Stella's Social Club

I know. If my whorehouse lamp is missing when I get home, I'm sending Kelly a fruitcake!

Please no fruitcake. I assure you that your lamp will be safe - especially since I don't have a key!
Have I ever told you all how much I enjoy my chickens?

Everyone thinks I'm certified bat crap crazy.

Oh, well. They bring my joy.

Good night!

Luv ya all,

Dar
I'm with ya Dar!

I make fruitcake every year for my parents and my ex-husband. They all love fruitcake but hate the store bought kind. I use Alton Brown's Free Range Fruitcake recipe from the Food Network. It doesn't use any candied fruit, just dried fruit. It is delicious but should be made about three weeks ahead of time and basted or spritzed with brandy every couple of days or so. I spritz with a mixture of unfiltered apple juice and brandy to make it less boozy for my tee-totaling parents. Right now it is a little dry but when I get the spritzing going it will moisten up. I love fruitcake too and keep one for myself. I free thin slices individually wrapped and enjoy them with my coffee.

Maybe we could barter a fruitcake for personal trimming of my Christmas beef tenderloins? Which BelAir does hubby work at?

Kelly, Molly, Cooper, Deb, and whoever-the-heck-else-lives-around-here. It is supposed to get down to 25 degrees tomorrow! I assume my drip waterers will freeze. They are attached to the coops so maybe they will be close enough to get some protection from freezing. Oh, but the hose supplying the water will freeze. Better start working on a Plan B.

Kathy, Are all your breeds still free ranging together? When do you separate your breeds into breeding pens? How long before you start hatching? How long do you keep them together? I'm working on my spring plan and don't want to be hatching before April if possible.....but....never know about rouge Icelandics that just have to go broody......

Yes, I am still letting them free range together. They all have their own pens-coops that they sleep in, but during the day they are all out. Well, most of them anyway. I don't think I will start setting eggs until Feb or March. Not sure. Of course, alot depends on the hens cooperation, too!

He works down off 50 and sunrise. You can just give me a call and let me know just what you want. I can have him trim it up just the way you want it and he can bring it home when your ready. ;)
