Stella's Social Club

Good morning! Oh my - I slept for 12 hours! I was so so so tired. Those 12 hour night shifts along with having this cold for weeks, are just wearing me out.

So, I am awake and full of energy. I just checked the temp and it is only 38 and not gonna get much warmer. A chance of precipitation, too. Oh well ........ I am going outdoors!

I think I will put a roast in the slow cooker.

Have a great day weekend everyone.
I just realized it is Saturday, not Friday.....

I'm going out to get the honeymoon suite ready for Kola and her new mate.

My peppers that were covered look like they are dead. :-(

The jury is still out on the tomatoes.

The waterer in the run had a covering of ice.

Final low temp was 25.

He doesn't have a name Kathy. That is up to you.

I took a walk with the donkeys through their pasture and fed them pancakes.

We walked to their far shelter. We need to replace that section of the fence where a tree fell. They can't get through it as the tree is still there.

They have a nice view from up there.

Sorry about your plants Dar. I think I suffered a horrible loss too. When I went past the little yellow house I could hear the Brinsea alarm going off. I went in and found the temp at 82 degrees! It had been holding steady despite the cold temps but not last night. I brought the eggs and incubator inside and it quickly got to 99.5. I am letting it sit for a bit then I will try and candle to see what, if anything, I have left. Dumb plan I guess. I have been wanting to incubate the little yellow house so it holds temps better and I think I am just going to go ahead and do it.

It depends on where they were in the hatch and how long the temp was low.

there is a good chance that they will be fine!

I just candled and threw out four that had obviously quit a few days ago. I could see slight movement in a few more, mostly Isbars and the Icelandic. I did see very minimal movement in a few of the dark eggs so I am cautiously optimistic. They don't look ready to hatch at all so they may have been dropping down in temp for a few of these super freezing night. I think I will move my incubator to the basement where it will stay warmer. I swore I wasn't incubating or hatching in the house any more but I gotta' do something, right? Anyway, I will still insulate the brooder house and if that helsp I can always move them back outside.

I am so relieved that I might still get a few chicks!

I found the Isbar on the nest again so I think I will give her the three Isbar eggs and she how she does.
