I'll get some shots of the Icelandic hens - cockerels went to live somewhere else due to my agreement with the neighbors. (I have 3 more cockerels to go live in my friends' Freezer Camp, too. I was lucky enough to re-home a beautiful red EE roo - whew!)

Thirsty flock today as the kiddie pools, stock tank, waterers and even puddles were too thickly covered in ice for them to drink. In the yard, anyway, the auto waterer in the coop only had a thin skin of ice and it had been broken by one of the turkeys. But the sun has lured all the poultry outside.

In a bit, when I get organized, I'll post a photo of a duck egg sitting, frozen, on the stock tank ice yesterday morning. Silly duck.

It is supposed to get down to 23 degrees overnight. That is almost ten degree lower than this morning. We turned off water in the hoses and we'll just have to see what happens.

I made corn chowder for dinner tonight. It was yummy but the first bite sent me off my chair in dental pain. I just stayed at the table until Michael finished his soup. He said it was really good. Later I'll have crackers and room temperature Greek yogurt. I am just about at the end of my rope, but trying to get a grip and hang on until Monday.

He doesn't have a name Kathy. That is up to you.

I took a walk with the donkeys through their pasture and fed them pancakes.

We walked to their far shelter. We need to replace that section of the fence where a tree fell. They can't get through it as the tree is still there.

They have a nice view from up there.

I love that first pic

I was trying to work on the coop and run some between moving. Hope to get the rest of the holes dug. posts up and gate up tomorrow

I think it hit 20 this morning there. Had about a 1/2 " to a inch of fluffy snow last night. Very cold. water had drained into my post holes and froze. Had a hard time getting it out.

I just candled and threw out four that had obviously quit a few days ago. I could see slight movement in a few more, mostly Isbars and the Icelandic. I did see very minimal movement in a few of the dark eggs so I am cautiously optimistic. They don't look ready to hatch at all so they may have been dropping down in temp for a few of these super freezing night. I think I will move my incubator to the basement where it will stay warmer. I swore I wasn't incubating or hatching in the house any more but I gotta' do something, right? Anyway, I will still insulate the brooder house and if that helsp I can always move them back outside.

I am so relieved that I might still get a few chicks!

I found the Isbar on the nest again so I think I will give her the three Isbar eggs and she how she does.

That chowder looks so so good!
I can hardly wait for you to get that dental pain taken care of. Dental pain is one of the worst pains ever! You have my sympathy!

Good luck! Hope you keep warm while you are working!

Cooper12, Your views seem lovely!

Good luck getting the rest of the fence up ASAP!

yeah I need too. We are moving soon. I have 100 feet of chain link fence I may have to take down and use until I can get the no climb. It is only in ok shape ..

Moving sure costs alot lol

Mary - is that recipe on your blog? Looks yummy. I hope Monday you get some relief.

Jason - I'm cold just thinking of you out there working on the fencing in this weather. Good luck with the move.

It was 25 here this morning up against the house. I have to change the battery in the other unit that is away from the house, so I can get an accurate temp. The waterers inside the coop were frozen solid as well - and they rarely freeze. Gave all the birds hot water. My 8 week old chicks are troopers. No heat and they are cruising around like it's no big deal.

Cooper gogogo!

And moving is expensive. Wait till you figure out what else you need. That hurts too lol.
