Stella's Social Club

Mary,

What a labor of love for two of God's little creatures who would have most certainly died without you.

I watched the entire 24 minutes!!!

.... and again, thanks for all of the thoughts and prayers. we need them.

Prayers for your pastor T O Mary...

Mary,

What gave you the hope that these two would actually make it? Is there something we should look for if we ever see babies like this?

Thanks for the kind thoughts and prayers.  DS last appointment with the bone Dr. he was told he MUST keep his leg elevated and ICED.  It's not easy.  His girlfriend is here CONSTANTLY and really she is not helpful, but "a comfort?" to him.

I'm to the point I'm letting DW deal with it... he is behind on his homework but does a little here and there.  Won't have an appointment with the Dr. again for another two weeks.  They can't do surgery until the swelling has gone down.. His leg looked HORRIBLE when they took off the ER cast.  Even the Dr. was surprised at how horrible it looked, but they said nothing about ice nor elevation when released from the ER and he was going to school!!!

Live and learn.  I hope they don't have to break a semi-healed part when they do the surgery to put in the screws and tack the tendons back in place.  He's got a long road ahead of him and has NO CLUE... of course I know nothing anymore and I'm retarded... amazing how my kids attitudes change once they hit 21....

I need to count my blessings... a friend on the AZ thread took his wife to the hospital today because she was feeling under the weather, they found stage 4 lung cancer that had spread to her brain.  They had no clue and she doesn't have long.... and they still have a 14 year old daughter.

I am Soooo Sorry. My heart goes out to you and your family. God Bless!
I myself have been having some medical issues... I have been off work for almost a month. Im ready to feel good again...

I am supposed to have the new line but I suspect the extras are from the older lines. I will grow them out and keep the ones that are closest to the standard. Greenfire claims to be improving their CL and imported more that come closer to the UK standard.

I am looking forward to watching them grow out. Very exciting!

Please - tell me I can get some rest now! :D I could not sleep at all yesterday. I worked all night, and came home to Brittney in labor. Recall, she is not suppose to labor! She is scheduled for a C-Section on Friday. hahahahaha...... Cylis Kane, 6 lb 11 oz, 19 inches long. A perfect little cutie. :P
Congratulation Kathy. Blessed for sure!

tbitt, the chicks were stone cold from being encased in Grogel. They weren't able to huddle with the other chicks for warmth and just drifted away. When I pulled them from the goo they were lifeless and cold. I thought I might be able to save them if I could warm them up and stimulate their hearts and brains. I had been successful doing this one time before with a chick that fell out of the nest box and couldn't get back in. People who drown in cold water can sometimes be revived as well.

Here are some facts about hypothermia:

As the temperature falls, the body shunts blood away from the skin and exposure to the elements. Blood flow is increased to the vital organs of the body including the heart, lungs, kidney, and brain. The heart and brain are most sensitive to cold, and the electrical activity in these organs slows in response to cold. If the body temperature continues to decrease, organs begin to fail, and eventually death will occur.

One of the most important rules of hypothermia treatment, no one is dead until they are warm and dead.

You also never start treating hypothermia with the extremities. Warm the trunk first. That is why I aimed the heat at the babies mid-body first. I struggled with whether or not I should rinse them first. I knew that if they couldn't move their chests effectively they probably wouldn't survive. So I gave them a quick rinse under warm water, patted them with a washcloth and then started warming them with the blow dryer. There were times they wanted to just lay back down and their heads started pulling back again. That is when I would pick them up and stroke their chests and talk to them. It was a labor of love, believe me. Plus, I had a mocha that I had picked up at Starbucks on my way to the post office. That was my resuscitation.

what an ordeal but, you dun it Mary maybe you should call them popsicle and momsicle, creamsicle, fudgesicle - whatever. They are so sweet, the little one would have terrified me when his eyes rolled back into his head. Jeepers creepers.

I remember when I was first raising dogs that a vet Dr.Jacob Mosier(I believe) lectured on treating sick, cold puppies. He always stressed slow warming and would put puppies in his pocket while he worked, as the body warmth and movement would help bring them "back." Or you could warm them by putting again your skin - I don't think women put them in your bras(like some with chicks) but, maybe way back then no one wanted to admit to that.

He said not to feed them formula while they were so cold because their digestive system was paralyzed. I had two really"gone" puppies - and would dunk my finger into a bit of whiskey(or what was available) and touch that to their tongue. Not enough to swallow - that would bring on signs of life.

I hope you video is also posted in the emergency section - everybody should see it.

The reason I asked was because I, along with a group of friends, have a bunch of chicks coming.
When I went to the post office to, face to face, tell then to hold them for pick up, the postal worker told me that another community member got a box of dead chickens.

(I admit I am a bit of a worrier.......
Now I am worried that mine will be goners....but am also wondering if I should try this if I have any seemingly DOAs.

I have watched a few reports about people being brought back, but never knew what the sighns were that it might work.

I like the Warm and dead thought.

Thanks!
