My son had surgery on his leg yesterday. Didn't stay over night in the hospital and hasn't had to take pain meds. DW did buy a prescription of Celebrex for him.... $260!!! I suppose if it helps him heal, it will be worth it.

My diabetes is sending me downhill rapidly... guess I'll have to go on insulin and pray that works. I have an appointment at 2PM with the accountant... I pray I don't owe. I'm taking her a 18 carton of eggs from the back yard.

I took the early December Icelandic chicks and put them in the grow out pen with the November polish. I then took Blucy away from her chicks and put them with the Christmas Ameraucanas in the other grow out pen-- it's the only one with a heat lamp now... so the Laree Brooder is empty. That should help with the electric bill. I had lamps in both grow out pens and the brooder for a while there.

The younger chicks are staying close to the heat lamp. It's only 46 out there... BRRRRR!!!

Wow Jason, your Emporandesa rooster really blends into the snow! Shoveling snow is no fun. We still have some snow, but it's now ice this morning.

Yeah, the netting doesn't like the snow. I went out yesterday and shook it to knock the snow off it. It was really sagging.

There goes Molly again tempting me with those goat pictures. Gosh, they are so dang adorable.
Here is a picture of South Carolina snow and ice covering my monofilament hawk lines. It sagged about 2 feet, and popped right back up as soon as it thawed. Much easier to maintain than netting.

I was watching the antics of my flock members in the snow when I heard the unmistakable sounds of newly hatched chicks from within the coop. Four little darling mix chicks under banty Grace in her bucket-on-the-wall nest box.

I was so excited I slipped and fell on my butt on the way to the coop. The melt has been going for hours, so I slid right into a mucky, icy puddle. I may be tender when my butt thaws.

New chicks! I know Grace has been broody for weeks, but...... I didn't expect chicks for another week, when the two silkie/BCM cross pullets hatch out the eggs I let them sit on together in the grow out coop. Then there are the eggs I put under my broody house silkie this past Friday...

It's not Spring, dagnabit!

:love baby chicks!

sorry, I know it's not polite to laugh when someone falls down, but I have to admit I chuckled at your description. Congrats on the babies though!

Hope he heals well. And I hope you get your health issues resolved Dar.

Absolutely gorgeous!

I'm making this post for Mary. She's had a rough day and isn't up to being on line, so she asked me to let you guys know.

Unfortunately, issues have come up with regards to Tucker's severe abuse from his past. He cannot handle living with any man, or any man that comes to the house. It was a difficult decision for her, but she took Tucker back to the dog rescue today. He was very excited to see the rescue lady, so it sounds like it was the best decision for Tucker.
