Stella's Social Club

Thanks Kelly. I am beyond sad right no. We came to the realization that Tucker is just too broke for us to fix. Michael took some action recently when Tucker had an accident in the house that triggered his memories of past abuse. Michael just picked him up and took him outside, nothing remotely abusive. Since that time, whenever he is around Michael, he has been cowering, shaking, having submissive urination problems. It is quite common in abused dogs. There are techniques that sometimes work in reversing the behavior, but it is difficult and requires time and patience. After much discussion with the rescue folks, we decided that it would be in Tucker's best interest to be in a female only household. After his most recent rescue, he was unable to be picked up at all without urinating. He also urinated whenever he saw a man, even on the street. His foster mom was willing to take him back. She plans to place him with her daughter in a newly renovated home with all vinyl flooring. He should get the love and care he needs without being in fear that the man of the house will pick him up and throw him against a wall ever again.

I am broken hearted but I know the work would not be done here to correct the behavior, if it can be corrected. Tucker made it easier on me for sure. When I let him out of the car to go with his foster mom, he was all over her. He jumped right into the passenger side with his buddy, her other small dog. He never even looked back. He was home again.

I'll be back online tomorrow. Love you guys.

Mary
I am sorry you had to make that decision, but, sounds like it was the right one.

He reminds me of my Rotten Ruby... I got her from a home that was not a good one. If I even said the word "potty", she'd drop and pee right then and there, and tuck her tail and cower. If I asked her to go out side, she'd pee all the way to the door while cowering. I never disciplined her for it, and I couldn't approach her fast. I learned to be able to tell when she'd have a lapse and think I was mad at her, and start submissive peeing right where she was. I have had her for nearly a year now, and only sporadically will she submissive pee, or cower. The first few months were horrible. I don't know how many times I had to wash the carpet. Now she is so attacked to my 4 year old, that she'll bite my 7 year old in the butt when they are rough housing. LOL. She's a puggle. I got her to keep my Boston company. I was told by her owner that she was 9 months old, (lie, vet figured her closer to three) and thats why she still had accidents. In actuality, it was cuz they were mean to her. Glad I got her, she's my Rotten Ruby after all.

I would have kept Tucker and worked with him if I was the one he was having the problem with. I couldn't expect my husband to do the training that was needed. I was the one that brought the dog home. I have 3200 sq ft of the world's cheapest white carpeting (new) and a lung disease making carpet cleaning and breathing fumes out of the question.

Today has been such a difficult day without Tucker. Everywhere I turn I see him. I know he is happy and that is the only thing that really matters. The foster Mom loves him very much and will keep him safe.

The inside of our addition is moving along.
The ceiling and three of the walls our up with the first coat of paint completed.

The flooring was nearly completed, but we ran out so a few more boards are being milled.

The lumber for the trim, baseboard, and fourth wall has been delivered.

Thing one and Thing 2 don't understand why we didn't make this hole bigger! (to keep them out)

It's looking great! Love the wall color. And this picture above just really cracks me up. (because my dog would be doing the same)
