Egads I made a horrible discovery tonight. I lost one of my dark egg layer cockerels. I have no idea where he is. Kelly was here this morning and confirmed my suspicions that all but one were boys. Then tonight I saw four of them standing in the run. I had sectioned off a small area for them with deer netting. They had managed to get through the netting and then out of the run through the 2x4 fence openings and a gap where it meets the coop. I got them all back but one was still missing. Then they got out again while we were looking for the little roo. The Isbar went under the little yellow house, all the way in the back where we couldn't reach her even with a net. She is sleeping there tonight. I doubt she will make it through the night given the cold and raccoons. I had to leave her there because there was no way to get her out without moving the house. Hopefully she will make it and the little cockerel will show up as well. Sheesh it is always something!

I HATE when stuff like that happens.... and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

I SO wish I could have roos!... and goats and emus...

Glad I can live vicariously through all of you.

It's going to hit 82 this weekend... I'd better start seeing green coming up through the ground where I planted seeds!!!

I'm picking some cauliflower this weekend... it survived the frosts!... gotta couple ripe tomatoes that will become parts of sandwiches too!

No sign of either chick this morning. I looked under the little yellow house but can't see if the Isbar is still in there and alive. The back portion of the area under the little yellow house is full of dead weeds about 9 a foot tall so who knows if she is there or not. I will keep looking throughout the day. The others are inside standing by the pop door waiting for it to open! Sorry, no batteries!

I will do the fence repairs this morning and them let them out.

Zoo's bald eagle captured after 3 days on the lam

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- A radio transmitter and then a feast of quail and mouse led to the capture of a California zoo's bald eagle after three days on the lam.
The Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo's tame 24-year-old bald eagle Sequoia was enjoying her daily exercise Saturday at a park when strong winds spooked her.
Instead of returning to handlers, she flew north and roosted in Menlo Park.
The San Jose Mercury News ( http://bit.ly/YUEwSH) reports Sequoia was tracked Monday to a Redwood City tree.
The famished bird finally dropped from her perch to the arm of trainer John Flynn, who rewarded her with a quail and mouse feast.
Sequoia ventured out on her own eight times while at the San Francisco Zoo. She joined the Palo Alto zoo last year.
