Yeah mine is a mess too. Lots of pine needles everywhere, including the chicken run.

Not many pines in that area of Auburn. Up where I am, we have the "real" pine trees. This is just the top of the tree.
Oh, I like big pines, especially covered in snow. Is that picture recent ? The "Pineapple Express" sounds like it would be warm.
That was from a year or 2 ago. If you look carefully behind the tree, you can see the power lines. What is in the picture is only about 1/2 the tree. We have both pines and oaks here, we love trees.
This storm that we have now is a warm storm. They were forecasting 4-5 inches of rain, but so far, it hasn't been a bad storm. Some wind and some good rain yesterday - but it's calm so far this morning.
Our coldest storms (that bring snow) are usually in Jan, Feb and March. It really stinks when we have a warm spell and all my fruit trees bloom, then it snows on the blooms. Occasionally we get a freak snow storm in May.

The next round is due in around 4:00 p.m. Kelly. I am going to get my coops cleaned out and the fronts somewhat covered because the wind has been blowing the rain directly into the fronts of the coops. They are a wet mess and stinky! I am going to try putting down a thick layer of Stall Dry followed by shavings. I hope it helps. I put pasture grass down when we moved the chickens but it didn't hold up well.
Gotta' go pick up some more bags of Stall Dry before I start working. I don't want to miss the opportunity to get these coops ready for the heavy rain.

Went out to check on chickens and collect my ONE egg - sheesh, almost 40 chickens and only one egg.
It was an Icelandic egg of course.
Anyhow, my Icelandic was off the nest (thank you!) but my Olive egger is determined. I hope, hope, hope my wellie pullet starts up soon - she's 26 weeks old.

yeah we are going to get pumeld pretty good . up to 10 inches between now and sunday night.

Got it all done today. Luckily I told Michael what I had to do and that I only had a four hour window and he said, "What can I do to help?"
OMG, I was ecstatic. Today we cleaned five coops, put down 600 pounds of Dry Stall as bedding, put up rain guards over the vents, covered the two coops with open fronts with plastic, replaced 50 pounds of moldy feed, and installed plexiglas in the open front door tops. We won't be totally waterproof but it should be a lot better than it has been. I have lost sleep thinking about those nasty coops. My babies are lovin' life tonight. My project babies and 2 of my layers have been sleeping in the nest boxes which were gross beyond belief. I stapled plastic over the nest boxes to stop that habit. The layers aren't laying anyway so it's no big deal. Everybody out there is old enough to get up on the roost! Tough love around here today. Michael got called away before we finished. Somebody set the alarm off at the other house and the cops were on their way. I was finishing just as the deluge started. A hot shower helped warm me up. I have homemade pork tamales steaming in the kitchen and I can finally relax for the first time since 7:00 a.m.
