Wow... no doubt drugs or alcohol was involved. Glad no one was hurt. Glad the company is going to take care of you.

I am so thankful to Mary-- The Sheriff, for Kathyinmo, for Boston and for NotaFarm for my wonderful Icelandics.

They are now my favorites in my coop, they are simply eye candy.

I'll be putting the five chicks under Ida on Wednesday evening. I feel confident that she will take right to them.
I've only seen her off of the nest once and all she does now when I check under her is GROWL... she's finally stopped taking pieces of skin off of my hand. She also felt a little lighter today so I'm going to be putting some wet feed in a tin and place it at the front of her nest tomorrow.

I was also going to buy 8 BBS Ameraucanas to put under her at the same time, but decided that since she is a first time mama that five Icelandics would be perfect for her and 13 might overwhelm her.

Can't wait to see how she takes to the chicks that all hatched almost two days early!

Stay tuned for pics!!!.

WOO HOO ! ! I can hardly wait!

I will tell you my experience of putting chicks under a broody.... I have had both good and bad luck with that. One hen killed all 5 chicks on day 2.. Others have done well.

One thing I did learn though - don't "hand them to her," or show them to her. I found it easier to do in the dark. Slip the chicks under her when she can't see them. That's my best advice anyway.

Good gosh loriandrinda that's enough excitement to last thru next year. Sure glad you saw him so he couldn't make a getaway. I didn't think "drive-thrus" happened anywhere except the Chicago area and suburbs. Personally I think it's mostly people on their cell phones or texting, whatever. Hardly a day goes by out here without hearing about someone driving thru the front windows of a major store, bank, McDonalds, someone's brick home etcetc.

Good Luck! I chickened out of even putting some hatchery chicks under a brooder earlier this year. I hope it goes well, and looking forward to the pics!

Thanks everybody. As inconvenient as it is there are a lot of ways it could have been worse. And the plus- it forced my hubby to finally finish the gate on the actual chicken yard while we clean up all the glass and car bits in the main yard! I swear it is EVERYWHERE! Things aren't adding up with the driver's story. At the very least he was speeding for sure. It always worries me to let the kids out even though our yard was fully fenced- now I have good reason to be absolutely PARANOID about it. We are somewhat rural and between Tulsa and a smaller community, so I don't see any way to get anyone to take me seriously enough to do something about all the speeders on our little street. But the neighborhood is slowly changing as the older original owners are passing on or moving in with their grown kids and we are finally getting some kids in the neighborhood. Maybe I need to start a petition to get some SPEED BUMPS on our street! It's a long straight stretch with no stops. It is so easy to speed if you don't watch it.
