Same here.. I have hatched Marans all summer for my friend and those things hatched like popcorn. Black Coppers, Blue, Splash all the same. I do not do anything different.

Well, you all have been chatty today, whilst I slept. I was so so tired. However, now that it is after 10PM, I am wide awake.

Love the pictures! The steps look great. I never see enough emu pictures. Kelly, I have 3 Wellies near point of lay. They are in my "secret project" pen, and I am very anxious to begin hatching from there.
Are they the babies from me? I'm so curious about your "secret project". It's gonna kill me with anticipation!

Ya know..... I have hatched quite a few Marans. They hatch right along side of my other breeds. I have never had a problem. I don't believe those eggs are any different than any other chicken egg.

Same here, I've hatched them and two different people have hatched my Marans eggs. No problems.

Yes Kathy it could be used in a similar manner but it does seem to get a bit hotter than the EcoGlow. I have mine suspended just over their heads so they don't actually make contact. I have chains at each end and can easily raise it one link a day or so as they progress. Mine is the overhead mount. I got mine from Sweeter Heater directly. Mine heater is over 30 inches long but I can't recall exactly what length it is. I just checked the birds and they seem fine. I am sure impressed with the leg improvement already. The truth is in the pudding when those hobbles come off. I have been dipping their beaks and they are pecking at feed on the paper towels. Hoping for the best! That brooder looks really cool!

I have been considering getting a Sweeter Heater for my bantam shed for quite some time. I currently use a light bulb which annoys them and keeps them awake- and now I have roos in there which will crow in the middle of the night with a light on.

If a chicken roosts ON the heater which I know they will do- will it burn their feet? Does yours get so hot it will do damage to them if they fly onto it?

Oh I wanted to say also that I have very much enjoyed the thread and also your blog entries! I have been reading a ton of the posts on here and it is one of the best threads going.

Why Thanks! Your best bet would be the side mount sweeter heater because then they can't roost on it. It doesn't get hot enough to hurt them but you wouldn't want them roosting on it. The way it hangs they would probably have a hard time staying on it anyway because it sways and tips.

Did I ever tell you how much I hate winter - specifically, freezing water.

I hate carrying buckets of water because the hose is frozen. I unhooked it and brought it into the garage now. I am hoping it will be thawed in the morning, and I can use it.
