I found a old Farm Sink today. My husband is going to install it outside the Barn, down by the Chicken Coops and Garden. It's going to be so nice to have hot and cold water out there..

Im so excited !
You will LOVE it. I have hot/cold water in my frog room which is right by where I brood chicks and the quail live. Also last year, I had a plumber run through the wall outside my laundry room so I'd have hot/cold for dog bathing outside. It has also become perfect for bathing chickens.

Your sink looks perfect for...............ummmmmmm.............processing chickens.

"pregnant chickens?"

Yup. A couple of years ago when my first broody hatched chicks, I was asked by an acquaintance how I knew she was pregnant. It was all I could do to not laugh in her face.

Cool! I'm jealous! I'd like to have a barn to be able to put a sink in!

Well to be honest, the barn is more like a shop. It is full of the boys motorcycles and toys. They don't let me put anything Chicken related in it. ;( RUDE!
This summer they are going to build me a room out the back of the barn. I can't wait....the sink will go there. :)

Alright, I will admit it. I decided to test out my Chicken Fountain waterer last night. I did not drain it.

(expensive test, I know)

When I got up, it was 29 degrees. The regular chicken waterers were frozen solid. The 3 gallon waterer inside the coop was slushy. The Chicken Fountain waterer - the nipples were of course frozen, but the water inside was only mildly slushy. I am hoping that once the weather warms up, the nipples will be fine and start working again. I put some hot water in the pipe, just in case to keep it from getting worse until it gets above freezing.

So it does appear there is some level of protection in the Chicken Fountain waterer. I probably won't do it again, but it is helpful to know how cold it can get before it is a problem.
