Stella's Social Club

so Friday night I did not notice 3 chickens where not in the coop. My gate blew open in the wind/snow.
I found a de headed Jersey Giant rooster the next morning and my last 2 icelandic's are just gone. I was hoping they flew up into a tree but did not see them yesterday.
The strange thing about the rooster is he was somewhat pulled through the fence 2 feet from where the gate was. so whatever killed him could of had alot more meat.
I put him up on the hill and something made off with the rest of him last night.

Deb and Ron mentioned getting a trap which I think I will. Ron pointed out not to use my shotgun if it is a skunk lol.
Oh no. That's too bad. I hope you get it trapped! The neighborhood farm boys are out and about hunting coyotes today. Looks like they are having some success. That's good news for everyone with livestock around here.

My husband is getting a new Gun and coyote call for Christmas. We have a Coyote that has been hanging around. My dog has been running him off but, it just a matter of time before Chickens start come up missing...Molly

Sorry to hear that the predator problems continue. It is very frustrating to deal with and so heartbreaking. Get yourselves some donkeys and emus. Not to many varmints want to risk going into though pastures (knock on wood).

I got my first Icelandic pullet egg today! I set it along with my dark eggs, a couple of Cream Legbars and about 7 Isbars. I probably won't keep the legbars or isbars but I wanted to see how the new CL roo is doing and check fertility on the Isbars. Yeah right.

Yesterday I went to historic Folsom and did some antique shopping. I had seen a listing for some hutches on Craigslist and want to check them out. I treated myself to the biggest most expensive one, of course. It is beautifully distressed and I love it. It is 7 feet tall and 5 feet wide. It really fills in the big empty wall and gives me lots of room for collectibles. The ugly white door is going to be gone soon, replaced by a wooden door with glass to let in some natural light. It is locked and we don't have the key so it hasn't been opened since we moved in. There are no other white doors in the main house, just in the utility room and basement. It's gotta' go.

Bear in mind I just put in some things I had around the house. The lady who owns the shop delivered the hutch this morning. She suggested some wooden items on top and inside the case to balance the white, since most of the room is wood tones. I think I'll look for an old white runner for the piano and maybe a white throw over the rocker arm.

I love it. Michael didn't go with me to pick it out and he isn't up yet but I assume he won't like it. He is a big matchie-matchie guy.
