Stella's Social Club

Sorry about the fall Mahonri. Michael just slipped on ice on the sidewalk from a leaky faucet and fell, hurting his back. He was wiring the hot tub. I hope you feel better soon. Going to be difficult working that way.

Grandson Buddy (13) is here. He slept until almost noon and missed a visit from Kelly and her boys. He says it is a puberty issue.

He had an idea to turn the living room in the basement into a "kid's cave" so we worked on that today. We unpacked and organized eight boxes of stuff.

We added a small fridge for beverages and snacks.

We moved the TV from my office down there and tomorrow we will hook up the Wii game console. There isn't a satellite connection active down in the basement but the TV has a DVD player. Tomorrow Cameron (13) and Amanda (15) will be here. Friday we head to the mountains where they will get snowboarding lessons. Tonight I made his favorite New England Boiled Supper with crab, shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn. We are having a good time!

Tomorrow we are going to look for some bean bag chairs and lava lamps!
What an awesome space that any teen would love! Nice job

Alrighty, here's the recipe:

2 lb chuck roast (I used a 3 lb)
1/4 cup flour
2 tsp Italian Seasoning
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper
2 TBS olive oil
2 large onions, cut into thin wedges
1 parsnip, thickly sliced
2 carrots, thickly sliced
1 celery stalk, thickly sliced
1 cup cabernet sauvignon
1/2 cup beef broth

Trim excess fat from roast and cut into 1 inch cubes. Combine flour, italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Coat meat with flour mixture. Brown meat in batches in hot olive oil, adding more oil if necessary.

Meanwhile in a large slow cooker, add onions, parsnips, and carrots. Top with browned meat. Combine wine and beef broth and pour over meat.

Cover and cook on high for 5 hours. Then cook on low until carrots are tender. (mine took 8 1/2 hours total)
YUMM!

Karimw what a gorgeous batch of chicks - okay 2 batches!! You must get some award for 100% hatch rate." May pullets be with you."
Thanks! I just sorted by type since they wouldn't all fit in 1 basket

Tripped coming down the mountain this evening.

Broke my glasses, have wounds on my head, nose, left hand, right elbow and both knees.

I hate getting old. One of my sons and his friends came with me and helped pick me up and wash my wounds...

And I've got a full schedule from now until after the 15th. YIKES!

DW says she's going to put makeup over the wounds each morning. Thank the LORD I have a backup pair of glasses!

I'm going to have to wear some pretty huge bandaids over the wounds on my left hand.... and then try and fit gloves over them every day, every patient.

If you pray, say a little one for me this evening and tomorrow.

The Christmas party is over. DS#1 and his wife will fly out in the AM. DS#2 will be driving to Utah in the AM.
Mahonri! You gotta stop falling down that mountain. I think I recall another time you did this!

Heck! Id live there

In the summer when my kids have too much time on their hands and it's too hot outside to do anything... this was filmed the summer of 2010 but wasn't put together until last night... my son Eric is now in Mexico... living the dream.

If you've seen "Nacho Libre" with Jack Black, this is even more hillarious. If you haven't seen it, Netflix it or rent it... FUNNY

That was hilarious Dar!!!

for all you warm blooded types... it was -25 this morning with the windchill when I took the kids to school...

Dar, Be careful!! Stop trying to keep up with the youngsters and find a good speed for yourself.
Did you get chicks yet for the broody?

Okay....that's enough about the cold.... I wish it would warm up and snow or rain.......we are so dry here!!

Kelly, Thanks for the recipe.....I'll be trying that one!

Mary, I know you'll be posting pics.......try to get Buddy Joaquin to pose for us!

All of you that wanted the recipe - be sure to let me know how you like it!
Thank you for the recipe Kelly!

Have you watched the Pioneer Woman on The Food Channel? Her Husband is a picky eater so she has a section called Lad approved recipes.

Lad does not like food cooked with wine. My youngest DD is like that! She does not like Cumin either. Lad did like pasta with Vodka sauce though.

Do you think the stew recipe would be good with Vodka instead of wine?

Ron
