I had a heck of a time reading your post Drumstick. Makes me feel old.

Mahonri - don't say that about the rain. I need to get my bees as early as possible and the weather has to be good for it. I need them to pollinate my fruit trees. Plus I've got babies-to-be in the bator. So I'll be brooding them in a few weeks.

The weather for us looks good for the next week. We get a bit of rain tonight. Yours should start at 8 or so and be over by midnight. It will be cold over the weekend though.

I am still hearing that we might get a light dusting of snow tonight/tomorrow down to 1500 feet. That includes us!

My Isbar is not on the nest today so that is a good thing. Maybe she was just trying to lay and we kept interrupting her.

Just let me know. This pullet is the only one laying right now. The rest are still molting. I have 2 people on my waiting list so far. (I swore I wasn't going to do another waiting list, but oh well) I have some hens that lay really speckled eggs too.
I'm not in any rush - my brooder space is spoken for for a while :)

Hope 2013 is kind to all of us. Kathy, I am so excited about the emu babies. Do you pick them up, or have the shipped?

Gad zooks, this color is awful on the eyes, make it stop....

I'M BLIND!

It's my day off so I suppose I will be CLEANING COOPS!!!!

That and go to Sears for an eye exam and to pick out some frames. I SO hope that they will have something similar to what I already had as I have grown used to them.

We are supposed to get a cold NW/Cali storm coming in tomorrow and I've also got to get some Christmas lights out on all of the tomatoes in my garden as the forecast has it going down to below 30. I hate "global" WARMING.
I've also got to pull out all of the Sep. corn stalks and prep the ground to plant some peas and beans.

They are saying we are going to have the effects of an El Niño this year which means LOTS of rain in February, March and April... so I've got to get the seed into the ground by about Jan. 20th.
Do the lights keep them from freezing? I wonder if that would work on my fruit trees. We lost all our blossoms to an untimely frost last year and I'm trying to figure out what to do to prevent that again.

Goodness I hope so! We need to make up for the drought last year. The water table in the Iowa is drastically low and it would be nice to have water in my duck pond again.

It looks like you will have close to a normal Feb to April, If I am reading the map correctly. This is a map of the effects of El Ni no for the US:
I can only hope that map is correct, we have been in a drought for about 2 years, farmers need the rain badly!
