My submissions this week and critiques.

The light and the colors look really nice here... very italian! Watch your focus though... here, the focus is on a ravioli that is mostly hidden. It would be nice to see it on the front ravioli, since it is in the hero spot in the image.

I like the soft but dramatic light in this shot. Composition looks good, but do watch the corners and try to avoid little "triangles" being formed by the edge of plates, like in the lower right corner here. They pull your eye from the subject.

Well, this is a first! I don't think we've ever had a chick in a food photo before. :-) It's really cute. Love the expression. Food wise, most of the eggs are out of focus, so they get pretty lost, particularly since there is a pretty busy background as well. The shot at this angle, might have popped a bit more on an all white background and shot at a higher f-stop so more was in focus.

I don't think he knew I was kidding.

My reply to this critique:

I was just kidding with this shot. Have you ever tried to pose a chick while changing backgrounds and f-stops? :-) The background is the actual 120 year old brick wall in my basement. I got lots of nice pictures of the eggs in focus before I added the chick. My blog post even got a shout-out at King Arthur Flour!

I love it!

It is a good thing that I use a digital camera--I would waste so much film trying to pose a chic or chicken.....

I'm no expert, but I like the focus where it is on the ravioli shot. With the deviled egg pic, the instructor has you changing backgrounds and f-stops, we're all wondering how you got the chick to stand still and get that shot at all.

You also seem to post these around lunch time for those of us in the eastern time zone, where we might not be eating the healthiest lunch, but didn't intend to include any sweets.

Linda I have a light box( it was called a light studio cube, I think on amazon -- that just didn't work out with my cheap cameras.

It folds flat and has a drape to use as a back drop. I've had it laying around the house for years. If I can find a box, to fit it, I'd be glad to let you have it. I believe it is 30" x 30" x 30"- I'll go measure.

Linda it's very nice, it's a sunpak brand called e-box studio. It was advertised mainly for taking good photos for ebay sales. I hate it when things get wasted, so it'd be a huge favor if you'd take it off my hands.

Oh, I am ALL about doing favors - especially when it involves so little effort on my part! (Where is that drooling smilie?)

Went to town - Placerville - with HHandbasket today, maneuvering through the aisles at Wally World and <*sing it!*> Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, after I picked up three bags o'feed and a bag o' BOSS. We ate sushi for lunch. REALLY good sushi, behind the Starbuck's Coffee place on Broadway; I can't recall the restaurant's name.

Got the giggles BAD when a nicely dressed couple sat at the counter - the gal's butt crack was clearly visible through the back of the chair. Hazards of short tops and low-cut hipster type pants. Oh MY. We larger ladies never wear anything that can't be pulled down over our butts. Why don't skinny Minnies follow suit? I mean, nobody's buttocks cleavage is attractive. Am I wrong?
