Are Kola and Blue Boy Roosters?I hope Kola and Blue Boy have some girls, it has to even out eventually, right?
Hens determine Gender in chickens. They are not like us. There are too many Cockerels, change out the Hens.

Quote: Kola is Kathy's black Icelandic hen. Blue Boy is a blue Icelandic cock/cockerel....don't know his age but The Sheriff does....
Here is a picture of Forsaela (a daughter of Kola that Kathy shipped me last spring with my GNHs, so we know she can throw pullets) and her chicks. Four of them are from her own eggs.....

Ummmmm, Mary's blog maybe?I have a question for all you experienced breeders. I have a LOT of interest in my Iowa Blues right now, but many people want chicks. I guess it's time to take the next step and learn to ship them. Is there a good source to learn how to get started?

Shipping out a few orders today. I had to get online to get addresses!
I hatched 5 Kola babies - 2 black, 1 blue, and 2 chipmunk. I do hope there is a female or two in there. ALL of the others I have hatched from Kola and Blue Boy have been males. 100% males!
Wishing you all well.
A little young, but so far, looks like a pullet.Kelly, What do you think on Forsaela's blue chick?(pullet)![]()

Maybe try bunching up a towel or a washcloth (don't know how many there are), so they can snuggle up to/under it?Has anyone ever had chicks that would just not stop cheeping? My olive eggers have cheeped incessantly since they hatched a couple of days ago. The brooder temp is spot on, though I have tried raising it and lowering it. They have plenty of room to get out from under the light. They have food and are eating. They have water and are drinking. They don't have poopy butts or any other sign of a problem. They just peep frantically all the time. They are in the basement and can be heard through two floors to the bedrooms upstairs. I really want to keep these chicks but may have to put them up on Craigslist just for the peace and quiet. I am as close to losing my mind as I have ever been. I cannot think of anything else to do at this point. Ideas?
