Sorry Kelly. Emily's great grandmother just went to the trauma center after a fall. The phone lines are burning up here.

I solved the mystery of the constantly peeping, frantic chicks. They were totally quiet when I went down to check on them this morning. I couldn't believe it. This is the first quiet since they hatched. I fearfully pulled back the brooder cover and found 10 happy chicks moving around the brooder, eating and drinking. Chick number 11 was laying in a corner barely alive. It has since passed away. I think that chick was not well and it was cheeping frantically and everyone else did the same. Once the chaotic cheeping ceased, they all calmed down. Tonight they are doing great except Michael turned off the switch that is powering the heat. I am not sure how long it was off but they seem unaffected. I'll need to check for pasting if it was very long that they were without heat. Anyway, the whole atmosphere is calmer in the house without all the cheeping. RIP little baby.![]()
Make some guesses, tag the chicks and see how close you are. Mind you, this is all just my own observations. I first noticed this when I first got chickens in the '70's.
It's noticeable at about a week of age.
X2It is always so sad to see the little ones die. I am sorry for your loss.
