UPDATE ON MY ISBAR SAGA:
Jeeze, it sounds like my cream legbar saga, just different circumstances. Of six eggs I got from GFF, only two made it to lockdown. Now I am hoping at least one hatches and it's a boy. Hatch is Thursday. I don't even think either of these are from the most recent importation either! They were marked "50" and "52" which I think are the numbers for the first two importations.

Sorry you are going through this. I also have nine Isbar eggs due to hatch on Sunday. I have found my Isbar eggs to be very fragile as far as hatching if they are more than a few days old but they hatch well and the chicks are hardy after that.

Haha thanks. No they hatch just fine, and just as I think they are "out of the woods" at about 3 weeks they start dropping dead. So frustrating!

Did they test for salmonella? I know it's a type of e coli, and I've read that salmonella can transmit vertically.

Just lost 14 chickens today, including Toughy.

I accidentally left theJagd Terrier out over night - I am dogsitting for my room mate.
So I just got back from the butcher. I now have 30 pounds of chicken in the freezer.

I just sat down and am in tears.

At least I still have Eddy and another young rooster and my original girls except for the barred rock.

The loss just hit me....

And yes, the roommate is going.... but that's another story

Hm I didn't realize that salmonella was a type of e coli. The results just said e. coli:

Avian
MULTIPLE CHICKENS
Liver Swab
Liver Swab A
Trace # of pot. pathogen - E. COLI
Avian
MULTIPLE CHICKENS
Liver Swab
Moderate # of pot. pathogen - E. COLI 2 Types
Gram negative oraganism sent for 16S sequencing. 7-3-13

Then they did testing with about 20 different antibiotics on the e coli strain that they cultured and the chart told the vet which antibiotics it was more susceptible to. It was jargon to me, but it made sense to him so that's what counts! I really liked this vet, too. We may stick with him after the move as our current vet will be way too far to be useful to me.

I did not find that Salmonella is E. Coli. I think they are two different types of bacteria.

When I did a search for e coli, salmonella came up as well. They may be related, but not the same bacteria - I don't know.

I have never heard of e coli transmitting vertically, so I was trying to look it up.
