Specialling means that after your dog has completed - "finished" - the breed championship -- which is a chore in itself -- you keep showing the dog in order to win points in the groups -- terriers, toy dogs, etc
Only breed winners of the day compete in the groups. And then the group winners compete for best in show.
In order to win groups you need to know the judges and advertise heavily in the breed magazine that is sent to all the judges.

There you have it, spend your time and money for the glory of the moment.

A few owners of top dogs spend over $100,00.00 a year specialling a top dog.

Eva2012,
I'm glad thats not what I do. It sounds a lot like buying points with the judges. It should simple be the merits of the dogs. Sorry, but thats how I see it.

Me too, I was always an unknown owner/handler, so I really felt like I was doing well when my dog did well. I hate when they look at the top of the leash before they look at the dog.

In rabbits, they are placed on the table and the owner isn't supposed to give any indication of which rabbit is theirs. That usually holds true for adults, sometimes young children will get excited and announce which animal is theirs, but that is understandable. Many breeders use a pattern to tattoo their rabbits and judges will know. I've seen judges do things I thought were shady, (change their placement after looking at the tattoo). My son had a pattern in tattooing A"number"B"number". His initials are AB, the first number was the litter number and the second number was the rabbit within the litter. He rated his rabbits and numbered them top to bottom how he placed them. Males were odd numbers and females were even numbers. A3B2 would be the highest rated doe from litter 3 for example.

I will say, I did see a problem once with a poultry show. A judge walked around and looked at every bird (and exhibitor card) before the show. This was before the names had been hidden by folding the cards. They then knew exactly which big names owned which birds. I didn't think that was right. Admittedly, the big names are going to do more of the winning, but unknown people can have nice birds as well.

Eva2012, you skipped Grand Champion. All specialling is now, is going for a grand champion title. I think the Grand Champion title just started a few years ago (2010?). It gave the AKC a chance to keep getting people to show. Campaigning does seem to be needed for group placements. All I'm spending is the same entry fee as before, no campaigning for me. The wife would hide the checkbook.

I am beginning to think I am not suppose to have the quartz counter tops. What else could possibly happen?

The WRONG quartz is still here. No contact from them at all, since they offered it for half price.

I ordered from another place. All was well............ until today. They are just a small business. "The Kitchen Center." Anyway, they had a message on their answering machine saying their "stone guy," is out of commission - not available. The guy that called me (owner) felt so so bad. He said, "I have no idea what is going on. I don't know how long he will be out. I can not do any thing with stone until he is back." He offered to refund my down payment and help me find someone else, like in Joplin.

I just don't know ........

Maybe I will just get some cheap laminate and put that money back.

2014 can not get here quick enough. I am sooooo sick of 2013.

That is very strange...you would think they would want their material back.

Take the refund -- gratefully.

Call up the first guy and talk to the highest up, maybe you can get a refund. Go to small claims, and file -- but write a letter first.

Holy Moly! I am even more confused. Chalking it up to age. Note to self: Don't show Tucker despite his special status.
