Stella's Social Club

I spent yesterday afternoon chasing some troublemakers. They were so desperate to keep their feet out of the snow, that I found this:

The cockerel flew onto the wrong side of the fence, of course. It took me a while to get him and put him back in the run. The pullet flew to the roof of the coop. Then, another pullet got out. I got close enough and grabbed her tail, so I could get another hand on her back and all of her tail feathers came right out. I got her, inspected that she wasn't injured, and put her back in the coop. Then I tossed snowballs at the pullet on top of the coop until she flew down where she was supposed to be.
Wait a second, there is sunshine and blue in the sky! That looks like a gorgeous day. We get grey, gloomy days until spring.

Woke up to 6" of light, fluffy snow this am - the Christmas lights in the crabapple tree on the corner of the house look beautiful. And not bad to shovel. Unfortunately the garage rearranging project is not progressing very quickly, so the car is still out on the driveway - got to get that going again, it is so nice to climb into a not-frozen snow-covered car. And get the snowblower on the tractor.

We got our driveway shoveled yesterday and the cars are at the bottom due to ice. But I agree on how nice it is to get into a non-iced car.

it seems like an atmospheric inversion has set up here in Sonoma County -- according to the Nat'l Weather Service it's approx. 20° down in Petaluma & Santa Rosa, but up here on the mountain its 32° -- my chickens are quite relieved...

24 degrees this morning. It's nice to be on a warming trend! I can't wait for temps above 45, so I can feed my bees. I had quite a few dead bees when I looked yesterday. I'm hoping there are enough to keep going!

(it takes 21 days to hatch a new bee) The hive was strong going into winter, but I'm paranoid since I lost my hive last winter.

I hope the pipes don't bust, and you get your water running again soon.

We've been working on our own garage rearranging project, the tractor and implements now fit in the garage while the cars sit outside. DW wants the tractor in the garage since its the only vehicle we bought new. We are close to being able to get one of the cars in, too.

Good luck with the bees. I never thought of what happens to them in winter.

Has he moved since being on the news?
