Lets hear it for longer days !!

The Mayan Calendar marked the end of a time period, and they hadnt started the next one when the work stopped, their society collapsed.

Cute dog pics, Tucker is the long enduring, Bella has the rescue me look.

Mary Notafarm of the late hatch chicks from your eggs, I got 2 pullets, and 2 roosters, one was what I'd hoped was a large pullet, but, she's a he. And a Straight Comb, the other one has a RC so will be backup to Gose. He is a dark black and white, waiting for his full color pattern to get fixed. Both happily crowing now, in the basement whenever their light is turned on. My backup to Isi is a dark mottled grandson. A beauty !

Life goes on , and its better with Icelandic Chickens !

Winter solstice at 12:11 pm, we get 9 1/2 hours of light today, and more daylight every day now - yay!

According to the Mayan calendar we were goners a year ago, another cause to celebrate

Hooray for longer days!

We are in the middle of a couple of warm days, 45 yesterday, mid 50's today and tomorrow. With rain, lots, and lots of rain. It's a muddy mess out there.

I set 22 Isbar eggs Thursday, most of them too old to be viable but, what the heck! Hopefully I'll be getting a few Isbar chicks for my birthday on the 8Th!

I am noticing some good things happening since the re-homing of birds on Monday. More are roosting and not trying to clump on the floor. I need to block of more nest boxes though as I have some little ones sleeping in them. The orange Icelandic I kept has been showing some of his moves now. He is clucking to the girls and dropping treats at their feet. He did peck at one of my old retirees which made me mad so I will be keeping an eye on him.

I got a weird egg yesterday. It was in coop #3 where the only ones laying are Icelandics and one BCM. It was pointy and ivory versus Icelandic white. I was perplexed until I realized it that the little Swedish Flower Hen that I got from Molly is seven months old! Lately she has broken away from her bond with Lukka, and is doing her own thing. She always comes up to me when I go into the coop and run, which is a big change. SFH's lay white to cream colored eggs so I am thinking she laid her first egg!

It is the one in the middle. Hard to see the color difference here but it definitely ivory.

Here is my egg bin from my fridge! Yay, all except a couple of light brown eggs in the bottom are from my girls! You can see the little ivory egg pointing to the right.

If that truly is from the SFH then I can keep her in coop three where she has always lived. I would know that is not an Icelandic eggs. If it lightens, she has to be moved. She will hate that.

Sounds perfectly balmy Mike! Been cold here again last two mornings with frozen waterers. But the daytime temps are nice. I shall not complain considering what much of the rest of the country is getting!

Good luck with the hatch. It sounds like I'm 2 days older than you. My SFH lay very light brown eggs, and they increase in size overtime, eventually laying very large eggs. I love the colorful basket.
