Just received the box with the Croad Langshan hatching eggs. What a disappointment. I am not even going to bother setting them and I am going to list the chicks on Craigslist. Will lose $200.00 but, oh well. One or two look slight blush colored in this pick but trust me, they are plain old brown eggs.
200 for langshans holy cow you can hatch some of my empordanesa if you want some rare chickens and you can have some

The chicks and eggs are from the same seller. Not all the chicks I ordered hatched, so I asked to make it up in hatching eggs. That way I could see the egg color for myself without waiting 6 months. They are supposed to lay an egg with a "rich plum bloom" on it. I realize that it is more pronounced at the beginning of the laying season. It seems to me like that is still now and these have no bloom whatsoever.

I was skeptical and as it turns out, not worth it for me. I have enough brown egg layers.

If someone else wants the eggs I'd be happy to send them on to you!

Mary the bloom gets more subtle as they get older. Wet the egg and see if you stil see it. But if it ain't worth it there is that. Graceful chickens eggs are from your guy I think and hers were pretty.

I got mine from graceful chickens. There is no bloom on these to wash off. I don't want to wash them and wreck it in case someone else wants to try to hatch them.

Hmm here is a seller who has plum eggs...never knew that about Langshans. Thanks for explaining it Mary! (I looked at her website just now for the first time...knew she was a Langshan lover.)

We are full here with my two coops. Lovely breed but no room here!!! Our third coop is now going to be a woodshed. I hope you can find a home for them. Thanks anyway!

Kelly over on the Old Folks Home thread they are saying that in the NE bees have had a 20% survival rate this year from the cold. You are blessed! Nasty winter they have had.

We are finally having some lovely weather up here in the Pac NW.

I'd believe it, this winter has been brutal here in OKlahoma we usually have about a 30% loss, I know we have already lost 2/7 hives at our home yard not sure about the other apiaries yet. And the ones here at home have been babied- extra patties and sugar water- so I'm nervous about checking the other hives!

Decisions, decisions. I have a couple of broody hens and 11 eggs that could be moved under them. I know I don't want them to hatch the eggs they have. The incubator eggs are scheduled to hatch Easter weekend. Should I switch out there eggs, if so when ?

I tried switching incubator eggs with those under a broody once...the eggs were peeping in the shell and when I checked on the eggs the next morning they were gone...I couldn't find any evidence at all that I'd put them there...so I wouldn't recommend it, but I have heard good results from others...so, give it a try and see what happens.

If they were just eggs from my flock I'd try it, but these are special too me, and had to travel to get here.
