Stella's Social Club

Strange day. When we were choring this morning there was a little groundhog in with our bucks, we got it out with a couple of scoop shovels and for a reason I don't understand released it out in the pasture. I guess when it's a little older it can have an appointment with Dr. Winchester. After chores, I was out playing with the dogs, Moose (my male Icelandic Sheepdog), went to the chicken coop door and was looking in all excited. I went to check it out, there was a chick chirping. I don't know where it came from, I know there wasn't any serious broody in the coop, there wasn't a hen concerned about the chick around. I put it under an Icelandic hen that was sitting under the nesting boxes. She still has it. I'll see how they are tomorrow.
A mysterious chick.

Here, it's been hot enough that the eggs can develop without a hen. Today it's cooler though, which is nice.

Look what we got a milk cow and her heifer calf I did not take the pics we pick her up tomorrow at four o'clock!!!
Little Lady gonna call her Lady!

No name fr this moment.
If I had pasture, I'd love a milking cow. But I don't, so no cow for me. Congrats! You're going to be swimming in milk!

Smoked Steelhead Trout for dinner, two nights in a row!

Looks delicious!

I made this guy mad today!

Great picture!

Is that a Coopers Hawk? If so, they are pretty brazen. Will snatch a chicken right out from under you..almost not exaggerating.

Love all of those pines! That was a pretty video..blue sky with that hawk in the top of a tree.

Yep. Cooper's hawk. They live up in the trees at the top of our property. It is the perfect perch for watching the coops.

This was my excitement of a couple days ago:
400

Since I now knew that it was not toxic to humans, I summoned my courage, picked it up by the tail, put it into a seed bag and relocated it to 200 feet away under the Pepper tree. I lost both baby chicks to the snake. I found the second one with neck overstretched, and buried it.
Did not find another snake yesterday, but there might be at least another one.

I thought my little black rock bantam was only kidding about sitting in the dust bath hole. I went out today and found her walking around with two chicks. They were quite well-behaved, she pecked the ground and called and they came running!!!

Very cute little things!
