That is the first Steller jay I have seen since moving here!

they live in the pine zone. areas like Colfax , Placerville and Grass Valley they usually stay more in the winter and move up some in the summer. Here its all Pines so they stay.
as you get less pines they frequent less.

Snow! Can't wait for daylight pictures. It takes a toll on netting, doesn't it? We rarely get snow but I got netting with a bit of a snow rating. Since I wanted to kill Michael the day we installed it, I certainly don't want to do it again!

We didn't have any frost, just frozen ground, rock hard, which beats the mud any day! It will melt and be mud in a couple of hours but I enjoyed it while I could. There is a thick layer of ice on the pool too. But without misuture the heat pump didn't freeze over so I have heat downstairs today!
