No, I am still trying to get a fenced run. I think we may have to put up one ourselves since I can barely get a return phone call from fencing contractors, much less a bid. Hopefully Kelly won't be serving them an eviction notice for a few days. "Pleeeease, Aunt Kelly."

Oh please, like 3 hens are that much work. They don't even eat much because they aren't laying anymore.

NOOOOOOOO tulip poplars, I have had to cut down soooo many due to breakage. They are sooo messy here and grow like a weed thats got weak limbs and loads of trashy-ness. Pretty only in the deep woods . Hope you get squared away soon. I am in a double wide home here in the mtns of NC. I do have a stick built home near the coast but prefer the climate here much better. Not quite as humid or quite as hot. but this red clay soil with some compost really grows things well. Hope you get in your new home soon. Then you can go chicken crazy again. Shucks, I think I will go in the opposite direction each year and downsize but every year in the spring I want new chicks.

To my knowledge, they don't grow that well here, as we are a dry climate. My MIL has one and it's 30+ feet tall, she's never had an issue with it. It does drop leaves in the fall, so it does make a mess of leaves on the ground. I understand they grow quite well on their own in the East.

Mary, do you want the good news or the bad news?

The good news is all your hens are surviving this miserable heat.

The bad news is Skye is back on the nest.

Oh crap. Can you talk to her or something? Tell her she is older than dirt and hasn't laid an egg in over five years. Tell her she is sitting on shavings and that the nearest fertile egg is one coop over? Good grief.

I saw an old lady at the post office today. Her hair was snow white but she had dyed one streak of hot pink down the right side. If she were a chicken, she would probably be sharing a nest with Skye.

I am accepting a fence bid today so it won't be long before Skye is my problem again! I got my mailbox keys today and picked up your gift. I know you're gonna' like it because I want to keep it!

I had to think about this for a minute - all the deciduous trees here loose their leaves in the fall. And it does make a big mess, although the trees are beautiful when they change color. Nice to live someplace where the trees keep their leaves.
