That's great! My broody was a little unreliable to, so I put most of the eggs in the incubator and gave her chicks, which she handed like a champ.
She's reliable, just chicks and eggs got separated. It happens. I had them in my incubator and gave them to her for the last week. She is mothering them wonderfully.

Not super happy about the new broody. (Welsummer and she is an experienced mom) Ugh, not wanting more chicks this year. Might have to give her a chick or two from the feed store.

I came home and my broody was off the nest. The early hatchers bailed out of the upper nest box, so my broody left the nest to take care of them. 1 egg had a large pip, but the membrane was dried out so I helped it out.

7 hatched, including the helped one, but it died sometime during the night. So I have 6 babies......1 splash, 1 blue and 4 black. (1 is possibly a dark blue, but not sure). I moved the broody and her chicks to private quarters and she is doing quite well with them. I acquired another broody while I was gone, so I stuck the remaining eggs under her to warm them back up. I candled them last night and several were late quitters. A couple may have died due to my broody abandoning the nest, or really late quitters......hard to tell. None were internally pipped.

Thanks again @1muttsfan for the eggs. I was a bit worried about the splash, it was really gunky and not really active yesterday, but is moving around with the others quite well this morning.

Congratulations!

Thanks Mike! They are beautiful chicks! I'll try to get a picture, but momma pullet is being really protective. She got off the babies last night and the splash was just laying there. I thought oh no and opened up the gate so I could check on it. Turns out it was just asleep, but got the heck beat out of my hand by the broody. She was going ballistic!

Glad the splash is ok, be careful!

Nice, Mike! Now a picture. Maybe put a marshmallow in for size.

I moved my chicks and Mom into the little coop from their baby pen yesterday. We had an almighty downpour that lasted for hours, and I though I'd better check them. Well there they were, under an overhang, huddled under that good hen who stood soaked with her wings outstretched with all 9 huddled underneath. Right next to the coop door  .
So I relocated them into the coop, shut both doors, and there they stay until tomorrow.

Congrats Mike! Serama's are itsy bitsy!

Thanks Kelly.

What a great mom!
