Stella's Social Club

I will miss Miss Olive. Today she sat with me and ate bread.

I don't have many "pet" chickens, but I sure did love that girl.

Ohhhhhhhhh well - she went to a very nice home.

Brett will take good care of her and appreciate her beautiful eggs.

I am cutting - LOTS. I have to. I am keeping only my Delawares, Barred Rocks, and New Hampshires. AND, of course, a pen of Icelandics. That's it!

Kathy, I know what you're saying!

I will only have breeders of my Icelandics from Mary and the New Hampshires from you. The Icelandics are my passion and the New Hampshires will be a test to see if I can "keep them good". I have no plans to hatch anything else this year so everyone is out and free ranging together. My DH loves the NHs color and how big they are and he is not a chicken person by any stretch of the imagination! I still have my 3 SLWs hens, Barbie, the 4 chicks from Jim and Randy that Asta hatched, some coturnix quail and two Bourbon Red turkeys. I also have some shipped eggs (FBlk/BlueCM and hybrid AMxLeghorn blue egg layers) from DMRippy under one of the SLWs. It remains to be seen what will become of them.....if they hatch.

Oh, and the Freedom Rangers..........but they are only here temporarily.

The sheriff:
I went outside and picked up all the dropped staples from putting up the fence yesterday in your baby girls honor, sorry for your loss.
Kathyimo:
DH is an Emu nut! He keeps thinking he wants them even though we don't have near enough space. He was admiring your pictures all day yesterday. If he comes home with an emu chick I'm giving it the skank eye! your dog is also awesome. I'm trying to teach our mini terrier to go outside and bark when the chickens make noise, but instead he is just running to me and barking. WRONG WAY RUFUS!

I have 2 chickens that have learned to get out of the fences in our yard and go into the front to dust bath. I'm going to try Adan get a video of them spotting DH car coming home and booking it for the backyard.. this seems stella worthy.

Oh no Mary and Kathy.

Stay Strong!

I just drove in from grocery shopping and Stella met me at the garage. We shared a hamburger bun and caught up on the morning news. Stella says the rest of the layer flock have been complaining since I moved Chatty Cathy the Welsummer down to the barn. Apparently she is an early riser.

Downsizing in progress - BIG time.

I had a medical procedure done today. Thyroid biopsy. The doc was reassuring me, when I told him I was not looking forward to having needles in my neck. He said, "Well, yours is so big, I can't miss it. I could almost do it without an ultrasound. Some have nodules so little that I have to be careful and dodge the carotid."
