Stella's Social Club

Hi all, I have not been on in a while and found this thread (thanks NotAFarm).  There seems to be a lot going on......with everyone.

Mary; I LOVE the fence!!!!!  Your neighbors suck!

Talk to me about broodie hens.

I have a silkie that was given to me from a breeder who was downsizing, it is supposed to be around 8 months old.  She is definately a she as I have found an egg or two in the mornings ( the others are only 4 months old so it HAS to be her)

Well, she sits in the coop for hours at a time, all flattened out, hunkered down.  Hubby and I remove her several times, to make her eat and drink (which she does) but then she goes right back in and in the corner.  She has nothing in the pen with her....  Is she trying to become broodie or what?

Side note: everyone (even my ducks) have stopped laying in this heat, the majority are also molting....  Could it be the heat that is making her act this way?
She's broody. I got two silkie hens so my roosters would have some more ....well you know..and those two have been constantly broody since the spring....on nothing but hay. I pick them out and they run screaming through the yard. Eat, drink, broody poop and back they go.

Whew!!! Found you! I was stalking you guys (from a safe distance of about 100 pages) and then I lost ya. I gotta have somewhere fun to lurk and you guys make me laugh the most ya know!!! I should've known that if I followed Stella long enough she'd take me back home!

Good morning all, we are having lovely weather in Iowa this week! At 61 degrees I was practically freezing this morning, such a nice change from the 90s. The flock sure is happier

Oh my, this weather change has been GREAT hasn't it? I loved this cool morning we had today. LOVED it!!!

I was finally able to empty my freezer of the 8 frozen water bottles that were in there for the ducks and chicken's water-ers.

I dreaded going home some days, for fear of finding animals that had perished from the heat...I also own a very very old horse who was/is not doing well with this heat. She has dropped weight dramatically.....

I actually sat out in the yard with the animals (and the grandbaby) yesterday.

Hi everyone. I tried to post earlier but HughesNet has been out all morning. We had a T1 Line installed last month but cancelled it during the 30 day grace period. Had we not cancelled, we would have been stuck with a $335.00 bill for the next twelve months. The speed was somewhat improved over HughesNet but the service was totally unreliable. We had four long outages in the first week! Not paying for that! So I am back to slow unreliable expensive HughesNet. Not as expensive but still ridiculously slow and unreliable.
