Stella's Social Club

Good morning friends!
I think I am finally feeling a bit better today. I have just felt crappy the past few days.... nothing in particular, just all over crappy. Maybe the heat? The downsizing? The lack of sleep? My mood? Hmm, maybe I should change my diet, too.....

I have a couple folks coming from Kansas, one from Arkansas, and one from somewhere else, coming to buy chickens this week. I keep telling myself that is a good thing. Yes, yes, it is a good thing.

I always enjoy seeing you all's pictures!

I am happy that our high today is not going to be triple digits. Only 99 forecasted for today.

You all have a great day!

KathyinMO,

May I ask ( forgive me for not knowing - I have not been on much ever the past month):

Why are you downsizing? Is everything ok?

I hope so.

Oh yes, all is well. Thank you. I simply needed to downsize. I came to my senses..... I have wayyyy too many. It is alot of work, and alot of money to care for them all. I want to focus on my Delawares. I will always have my Barred Rocks (I love them). New Hampshires will stay, too. All 3 of these breeds are plenty for me. Of course, I will keep Icelandics, too. They will give me the "variety," I crave.

Thanks Molly. I take the chick pics in this big white photo tent. Keeps them corralled provides a clean backdrop. I have white paper liners that I use and toss after each photo shoot. It works out pretty well.

Kathy I am glad you are feeling better. We are getting your heat later this week!

I took a drive through the country a couple days ago. There is one particular area that has really nice homes. I thought I might see lush green lawns there. Nope. It seems no one around here is watering lawns. Just not worth it, I guess. No mowing to do either. Everything is dead. It is as brown as fall. Ugly. I do have some green though - over the septic tank area.

The drought continues here. Someone at the feed store told me that many have lost chickens from the heat. I lost one a couple days ago. She was running around the night before. I recall feeding her some grapes. Dang it, I hate to lose a bird. I am grateful for the shade we have here. That has saved my birds, for the most part, I believe.

Fred and Wilma are much slower moving in this heat, too. They spend alot of time at the edge of the wooded area, laying in the cool dirt. Their appetite is less, too. Of course, they will always eat grapes, apples, spinach and kale.

I'm already sick of the heat and it's supposed to go back up here this week (of course, I'm in my run of 11 days off work). Why can't the heat come when I have to be in the A/C'd office anyway?

I had so much I wanted to get done outside this week (moving birds around from brooders to growout pens to runs, etc. It's supposed to be 100+ all week!

That's not me mad, that's how hot I'll be!

My LAST hatch of chicks are a month old now. I moved them out of the Nella brooder to outside today. I kept them there longer than I usually do, because I had planned to ship some of them and did not want them on ground. My plans changed (no shipping) and now they are all outside. It's nice to not have any more brooders open!

Okay Kathy!

I was just out looking at the chicks in brooder #1 (yes, yes, there are multiple brooders)..........................I'll give them another week to be sure, but it looks like

2 New Hampshire pullets
5 New Hampshire cockerels
2 Barred Rock cockerels

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, where could they have come from????????
