Good to know about the wax... given that I have plenty of beeswax I think I am going to use that. I did save one egg that had just a hairline so I will treat it that way, the others were weepy/seepy so I tossed those. I did notice the broken ones were pretty thin. Hopefully I will get a few from this batch! Not ideal conditions but worth a try. We've been having trouble with thin eggs from one of our layers too- until she stopped laying to molt. I hope when she starts up again her eggs will be nice and thick.

Feel so badly about the Turkeys.

I have a friend in Mesa who is putting eggs under a broody and then I guess I'll put some eggs in the Brinsea. Can't believe I'm doing this. Can't let those Drekki Jr. genes go to waste, he was so BEAUTIFUL, but so very LOUD. I kinda miss waking up to his crows, but I'm certain the neighbors are happy.

OMG the crowing! My bedroom is directly above the coops and I have been up since 4:00 a.m. I am sure we will be hearing from neighbors today. In retrospect I suppose the open air coops were a bad idea. Michael is going to freak out but I have to do something. I may try insulating the coops and closing the wire fronts off with wood. The coops do not have windows so they will be super dark. That would suck during the day. Maybe I could add a window and cover it with something at night to keep the light out. Maybe a blackout curtain on the outside of the coop would work?

I guess Mahonri would be the best resource here. Have you tried anything that works, short of surgery? Would covering the fronts of the coops with dark tarps help?

I am super stressed out about this. Michael's bedroom is on the opposite side of the house so I am wondering if he can hear it. I took a walk outside and it it definitely bad. I am hoping maybe that this is just the first night in a strange place and they won't keep up the racket like this on a regular basis.

Any suggestions folks?

Bring it on Kathy! I am on the other side of the house in the family room and it is driving me crazy.

Hopefully it will settle down! The first few days after we brought our first adult chickens home this spring the rooster was waking me up at 4 AM, 5 AM, 5:30AM. I told my husband I didn't know if I could handle it! But after the first week I don't know if he just stopped crowing that early or if I just got used to it... I *think* he stopped crowing that early but I'm not sure.
