I am unwrapping and hanging pictures today. I have a bad astigmatism so Michael will straighten them all out when he gets home. Michael and his daughter are at the old house cleaning out the barn.
My feed shed was completed this morning. The ramp is too steep for me to use safely so I will either have to extend it out or build steps. The builder wanted me to be able to dolly my 50 lb bags and hay bales up a ramp vs carrying them up steps. He said he would come back and lengthen the ramp if I was having trouble with it but I am sort of afraid to say anything. The shed is 8x10 and should hold my feed easily. I love the way he made it to go with the house.
Thanks Kelly! Allen really came through for me. I just love it! I am excited to get a ramp I can actually use and fill the shed up and start using it for real. No more wet feed! No more moldy feed! Unless I buy it that way of course! I have to throw out a half bag of crimped oats because they are moldy.
My parents came to see the house today and they loved it. I was nervous about that. While they were here my doorbell rang and a young lady was standing there. She said, "We found one of your donkeys wandering in the neighborhood and we brought it back to you." OMG I freaked out. I hurried outside to see an adorable donkey standing there but he wasn't Jack and he wasn't Diana. They were quite surprised. I told them I thought there were two donkeys living up the round a but and maybe it was one of those. I asked if they had a place to keep the donkey until they found the owner and they said they did. They said they might have a problem getting him to walk back because they were out of carrots. I told them I could help with that and pulled out a handful of carrots from the fridge and they were on their way. I thought it strange when they said "one of your donkeys" because Jack and Diana don't go anywhere without the other, even when they break out, they go as a pair. I hope they find the little guy's home.
That was sure nice of the folks to be so considerate in looking for the donkey's home. Glad you had carrots on hand!
Are you all finished Christmas shopping?
I saw this posted elsewhere, and have really thought about this. I am taking the challenge. I also endorse thrift stores and second hand consignment type shops. I think we can all be more thrifty and conscientious. Everyone around here can, anyway!
Personally, I want to focus on buying American made (or secondhand items). I recently found a new company that makes 100% American made jeans, similar to Levi's. 1791 is the name of the company. They are just getting started. ALL of their jeans were sold out quickly, and they are now restocking for a January delivery. The jeans are expensive - $129. BUT, they should last almost forever - ya know, like the old "American made," items that didn't need replaced (years ago) all the time. The cotton is grown in the USA, it is made into fabric in the USA, and the fabric is made into garments in the USA. I like it ! ! They are coming out with some shirts now, too. I want one of those. I also like that this company gives at least 10% of their net earnings to charity. The charity is "Mercury One," and I like their mission.... kinda like, "neighbors helping neighbors," mentality. Couldn't agree more. I make as many gifts as I can.. I have a few friends that craft as well. We trade our crafts with each other, sale some and are able to give fun useful gifts to love ones. I also love the second hand stores. Sooooo many fun treasures out there...
We buy American whenever we can. DH absolutely HATES tools that are made in China. He specifically looks for tools that are made in the US, which is much more difficult these days. Milwaukee power tools used to be made in the US, but are now made in China.
