OK, I hatched one out of eleven eggs.
The one that hatched took 48 hours to get out of the egg. During that time, some of the membrane dried on the chick. I raised humidity to 72% when it was taking so long, but he ended up with membrane all over him, including covering right eye. He looks like a teenager all covered with Vitalis in the 60's.
Now that it's dried, should I
(1) do nothing. The new feathers will come in and those will fall out;
(2) remove the dried up membrane now.
If (2) above, do you know what will remove the membrane easiest? I'm thought Baby Oil, warm water bath, hand lotion. What a ya think?
Any experience with this problem? please share.
Thanks.

I dont have any experience with this but if the poor chick has its eye covered then you should probably try getting it off.
Just use warm water and gently rub it off with your finger. I suppose you could use something with the water but make sure it's not too toxic and wont sting its eye.

Most of the problem is solved.
I used warm water at 98.5F. I had a small tin can, like 3" deep and 3" wide, and put in 2" of water. I put the chick in the bath, and it loosened about 75% of the egg membrane and I used Q-tips to rub it of. Got the right eye clear, and the only membrane left is on the back of his head. It only took about 5-10 minutes.
The brooder is at 98.0F, and I'm gonna leave it there overnight so chicky doesn't get a chill.
Thanks for the input.

OK, just one more update.
The warm water bath was the way to go, as well as a warm brooder when it was over. Today chick is mostly fluffy with little bits of membrane here and there but nothing like it was.
Looks like all is well, again, thanks for the input.
