They are boys. They were so yellow, I thought they were BO or something. But they are feathering out the red.
Here they are at 1 week...

Hmmm boys in the sex links usually have huge amounts of white....

Cochins? Ah well didn't see the combs well and they looked like my one slw baby. Please post pics when they're older they're going to be neat.

The "boys" both had white wings as chicks. The sl and Partridge ARE cochins. Wydnottes are clean legged and have rose combs. My chicks are heavy feathered legs with a single comb

They are not boys. Boy sex-links are all-white as chicks, absolutely no reddish colored down. And males do not feather in red and both usually get white wings feathers coming in. They are 100% hen. Trust me. I have one.

Ok. I have not been able to find a photo of a male sex link grown out. All I have is my experience of what I have previously purchased. My red sex link pullets looked totally different from these two as day old chicks. These guys were yellow and had white feathers on their wings. The photo makes them looked red tinted but in person they were not. Regardless, male they got to freezer, female they go to barn.

Cackle does sell Speckled Sussex. That's what the look like to me. I'd say too dark for NH reds and too speckled for RIR. Post a few pics in a week or so.

In my experience the red sexlinks get harder to tell as they go into dinosaur phase...and yes the boys will have some red on them as they grow up, however the girls will be redder. If the first wing feathers they got were white...they are boys.

Sorry about the earlier dumb question...I didn't know about the "Hatchery Surprise", but have since looked it up...have you gotten this assortment before? how many have they sent you for $40?

I thought they are too speckled for RIR, my one lone RIR did not look like these guys at all. Maybe they will be SS. I will repost in a couple of weeks.

I got a goose, a pair of ducks, 3 turkeys, 13 bantams and 24 LF. Heck of a deal if you ask me!!
