View attachment 1613996 Ok so we’ve done two days of coconut oil. And I’ve been looking in her mouth all though it is not an easy feat, I do think I saw a little white spot and maybe some whitish liquid deep in her throat. She still stinks pretty darn bad, but she is still acting happy and healthy preening lots great appetite etc. There is a exotic vet that for sure deals with parrots near us, so should have some bird knowledge, Thinking about at least calling. Here we are getting ready for bed tonight! Really hoping whatever it is she has clears up soon!! Will also try the fennel tea and have given her some coconut kefir!
Glad you have an appointment!Alright so Dolly has an appointment at the vet tomorrow! I will update you after! Thanks everyone so much for your input! Also the coconut oil so far doesn't seem to be making a differenceBut she is still happy as can be!! she flew up on my shoulder last night and I was eating some olives, she was so desperate to eat the olives lol she tried to snatch one as I was about to put it in my mouth and she ended biting me right in the lip

Hello everyone!
So I wasn't super happy with how dolly's apt. went. I thought because they were an exotic vet they would know something about chickens but I was wrong. The vet just googled stuff the whole time I was there. I was worried about coryza because the stink and I have noticed a little bit of clear discharge from her nose, he didn't think so because she doesn't have any of the other symptoms. He said her lungs sounded clear which I was surprised about too because of her wheezing. So anyways in the end he prescribed her Doxycycline for 14 days, she has been on it for 3 days and I haven't noticed much of a difference in the smell or wheezing (she is especially wheezey at night) he is assuming it is some sort of upper respiratory illnesss. I then really wanted to do a blood test to send to a lab so I would have a better idea what were dealing with, he said he would look into it, I would be surprised if I received a call from him about it. I don't believe it has anything to do with her crop, it is super empty in the morning. Another ideas or tips would be seriously appreciated!!!
Ohh dear
Exotic vets don't have knowledge about the chickens sorry about that
Regarding
coryza, which is also referred to as a cold or roup, is caused by the bacterium Haemophilus paragallinarum.
Typical signs of coryza include the following:
Because coryza is caused by bacteria, antibiotics can be used to treat a flock. It is important to follow the labels on any medication. Although antibiotics can be effective in reducing clinical signs of the disease, they do not eliminate the bacteria from carriers.
- Swelling around the face
- Foul-smelling, thick and sticky discharge from the nostrils and eyes
- Labored breathing
- Rales
ENROFLOXCACIN 10% (BAYTRIL WORKS GREAT) AS ITS A BOARD SPECTRUM ANTIBIOTIC AND WORK FASTER
DOXY IS MAY NOT WORK BECAUSE DOXYCYCLINE IS USE IN ONLY BREATHING ISSUES OR LUNG INFECTION NOT ON BACTERIA KIND LIKE CORYZA
I really don't think this is Infectious Coryza. Chick is too bright, active, shows no facial swelling or serious respiratory symptoms.
I see no point of considering to introduce any other antibiotics. This is only day 3 give the medication time to work and allow the OP to follow the vet's instructions.
There are other illnesses it could be, but again, chick is still too bright and active for me to think she is suffering from anything major at this time
"Cyclines" are still commonly used to treat respiratory illness including IC. While not as effective on Coryza it can still be used in conjunction with sulfa medications.
