sounds like my cheap butt EX-HUSBAND...notice the EX part...HE didnt want any animals cause they cost too much and used up some of his 'fun money" which really was "bill money" which bills didnt get paid with..you know what,I havent been overdrafted since I got rid of him 3 years ago..and all the bills are paid...

I'm thinkin the few bucks that lamp would cost per month is not the problem. I would suggest some real heart to heart.

I am glad the Miss Prissy opened this... It is important that people support eachother. Our friend needs our support to stand up to this bully.
(I am sorry if I am on my soapbox, here. I may be out of line. It's just that I used to work at a shelter & guys would be bullies about the women and the kids and the PETS - everything).
OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACHOTHER & OUR FAMILIES & OUR CHICKENS ARE IMPORTANT!

I entirely agree that this is probably about more then the chicks. My DH isn't cracked up about my chicks either but hasn'tsaid anything about the light or anything I do to take care of them. And we are on a tight budget. He admitted just yesterday that when he walks by them he looks in at them. And he is NOT a chicken lover by a long shot.

Which is what makes this whole thing so sad. It is, unfortunately, far too common. My ex-husband beat a tiny stray puppy to death just to show me who was boss.....he would have killed me before giving in on a situation like this one. I hope this is not anywhere near that that type situation and the chickies get what they need and so does the OP.

My EX husband was tthe same way. I came home from work one day to find my 1 year old still in wet diapers and went into the kitchen and found my puppy I had rescued in the worst state. I still have nightmares of the way she looked and I won't describe it becasuue it was way to graffic. Well to say the least, I had to put her down becasue she was beyond help. He siad she bite him and he lost his temper. The last time I saw him before he went back to jail was when he was beating me while I was pregnant and then my wonderful rottweiler bit him in the shouolder blade to get him off of me. What a wonderful dog.

That is why I am on husband #3! I got rid of the first two before I allowed them to overdraft me.

This one knows better. From day one, he hands me the paycheck and I pay the bills, maintain the house and make sure he has everything he needs.

I appreciate all your posts.

"Stolen" was a word I used in hopes that people would choose to read the post and respond.

When the heat lamp was taken, I knew I could respond my putting my foot down, but I guess because I know there are larger issues, I choose my battles. I'm hoping that my cardboard/blanket tricks are working at this point. And the chicks really do not seem to be troubled - there are 8 of them. They don't squawk or huddle much at all. dh does my chicken chores once in awhile and has tolerated the hens wandering the yard, so I'm taking what I can get. I have found new homes for animals in the past that he did not do well with - I'm in love with animals; they are a salvation for me.

For those struggling after reading this post, please know that my dh has never been physically abusive. I'm sorry to have upset so many - life is rarely easy... I'll try another talk on the subject.

You could end up with pasty butt chicks. I would see if you could toss the man a few extra $ to help pay for the electric bill so you could keep your lamp for at least 3 more weeks. Maybe an extra $10 a week will keep him quiet and happy enough to give your lamp back to you.

Good luck!

~Okay, I responded to this post without reading all of the comments. GEEZ! I didn't realize that it was your DH. I was thinking a landlord or something. I am getting a bator today and have compromised with my DH on the power bill end of it. I am going to hang out the laundry faithfully, to help compensate for the power the bator will be using and the heat lamp that I am using for my 3 wk. chicks now. Maybe throw something like that out to him and see if he would feel better about the heat lamp usage. It's worth a shot anyways!
