Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

go with your gut. Ask for troopers. You have grounds and are very justified in asking. All they can say is no. I am SO SORRY this has turned out so convoluted and twisted and drawn out.

I'd second the troopers!!!!!

Less chance of good ole' boy mentality there.

with the mentality of this ding dong....there would be NO one EXCEPT the troopers going with me. Tell them in the hearing that you are intimidated by the guys relatives working in the sheriffs dept. they cannot make you do something that will cause you harm

I agree with everyone else... Go with your gut, you already know you can't trust those guys - they've made that blindingly clear. Ask for the troopers to go instead. Good Luck!

I think I'd have a reporter go with you, anyway. They can be a witness to how the local police are "buddies" with this guy.

I totally agree with Horsejody. Someone said that they can't make you go with a sheriff or deputy if you feel uncomfortable, but the fact is, they CAN. They can say take it or leave it. That's really all they're required to do under the law. If they're feeling irritated or spiteful over anything at all, all they have to do is follow the letter of the law. If they are really in sympathy with you, they might go an extra few inches to help you feel comfortable, but they are not required to, so plan to take someone unimpeachable.

A lawyer would be nice, no need to introduce them as one, just "this is joe smith" or whatever, of course, that costs money... but a minister or a reporter, yeah that works too. Like Jody said, impartial, not your best friend or sister who they can claim would lie for you.

He is still in the posession of property that rightfully does not belong to him. No matter how you slice it. It does not belong to him and he bought Stolen/embezzled goods! He is in the wrong by not offering the goods back to the original owner which is YOU!

Edited because I cannot spell!!!

This is exactly correct, if someone does not return office equipment it is considered embezzling, but the property by terms of the law is stolen property. The uncle is permanently depriving you of what belongs to you, it is the same as stealing. According to the law the uncle is committing larceny by the fact that he has custody of property that does not belong to him and he intends to permanently deprive the rightful owner. Larceny charges need to be filed against the uncle as soon as possible.
