Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

A kid actually stopped at our house once and tried to sell us a goat, just because he saw that we kept goats.. He worked at the stockyard and said he'd picked up a little Nubian doeling...we declined. Then he asked if we wanted to buy a horse! We declined the horse too, though my wife casually mentioned that she'd like to have a horse someday. Bad move. A few weeks later, totally unannounced and utterly unexpected, he rides the danged horse to our house to show us.

...in the rain....

Um..yeahno...thanks anyway, though? I guess?

Months go by, and a good friend of mine who works at a different stockyard tells me about this cattle rustler he called the cops on.. Guy didn't know squat about the cows he brought, claimed he was selling for someone else but wanted the check made out to HIM, etc...all kinds of warning flags. Well, a neighbor of ours just happened to call around to the stockyards to put them on the lookout for some cows he'd had stolen while the guy was still there.. Neighbor describes the cows right down to the ear tags and, sure enough, there they stand. Still had the eartags in! So, my buddy calls the State Police.. KSP shows up and start asking questions, and the next thing ya know, the guy -- and like 5 cohorts who were also there at the stockyard -- admit to having stolen these cattle.

You guessed it.....the rustler was the same kid who tried to sell us the goat and the horse.. These days I can't help but wonder....whose animals were those that he trying to sell us? Were they stolen, too? Probably, I'd say..

This is just crazy! So if I let my friend pet sit for us with a written contract and she sells them when I'm gone I wouldn't be able to get my pets back with out a huge run around? How would I prove ownership? I didn't keep my reciept for my pets and never got one for my chickens.

dntd - my friend took pictures of every single one of her animals got the person to sign a form for each animal saying that they would take good care of them and on the form it stated that if any animal died then they had to take the animal to the vet and get a deather certificate. When you have parrots worth $6,000 a piece i can see why she did this. All birds where accounted for when she got back.

Ropo, I plan on visiting my folks in the DFW area within the next couple of weeks. I would love to assist you in getting your horse back if I'm down there when you get the call. I am a misplaced Texan living up north, and there is NOTHING I hate worse than a disreputable no good low down horse thief. I wish we still hung em as soon as we found 'em. And receiving stolen property is still wrong so the uncle and his kids have NO claim against max. oooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhh arrrrrrrrrrggggggggggg!

I'm sure it's been posted already, but I'm too lazy to look it up. When is the criminal trial scheduled to start for the embezzlement charges? (Assuming there really IS a trial and he doesn't plead out...)

This is kind of like a doctor's diagnosis - they don't seem to be in any hurry to let you know if you are going to live or die while your whole life stops waiting for them to tell you. Hope that makes sense.
