Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

Offer a reward, you don't have to specify the amount but that may get him nervous. Explain the circumstances behind the theft.

I will go ahead and post onto Netposse as soon as I can get a copy of the report. The system looks different than the last time I unsuccessfully used it. I hope it works with this version of IE.

Either that, or just transcribe it directly to Deb in an email. That would probably work and help bypass any technological gremlins.

That's a great idea and I'm not saying it can't work, but it takes perseverance in a small town. We tried that here on the case I helped out on and someone went around stealing them all, no matter where we posted them! They'd be gone in hours! It worked better outside of town but didn't help much, because the horse was right in the township the whole time.

One of the things that came to my mind, and I am not sure it can be done or would work, is filing a lien against the person holding the horse. This will block any sales of personal property by that person until it is cleared.

Oooh! Great idea! Also, a nice lawsuit would freeze the assets of EVERYONE named. That might be a little incentive to get this jerk to give you the horse back. Nuthin' like a lil peer pressure.

Not sure if the useless sheriff situation was remedied, but I live in a small area and we have the same issues. The entire sheriff force is 80% one family and their sons, nefews, and cousins. grrr.

I've found if we need something taken care of we call the STATE TROOPERS.

That sounds like a super idea...I had a contract once with someone, a deposit on a foal, and per our contract I was not to forfeit my deposit if, upon weaning, I decided I did not want the foal because they had a waiting list of people. When weaning time came I didn't want the foal but they held out on giving me my deposit. One phone call from my lawyer threatening a lien made them come up with my deposit within an hour! The people kept crying poor and held out on me for 6 months till my lawyer called them, and then all of a sudden they wanted me to come over right away and collect my money. You never know. It's amazing how well these things can work if people think a huge sale will be held up because of a comparatively small amount of money. Plus it is my understanding that such things can really hurt a credit rating if they apply for credit.

Let's see...someone else's horse vs. getting a car to be able go to work and make the house payment. Tough one!
