This is so obviously an attempt by the paper to 'call off the dogs'.
I had no idea that town was such hotbed of rapes and murders. If they have hundreds of cases going through the court system maybe it is because they are inept. It happens when people who are ill-equipt to handle a job are give or elected to one that is well above their skill set. Nepotism at it's best.
I'm willing to bet most of those court cases are out-of-towners that got caught in the local speed trap. I've heard it a hundred times....they esp. like truckers. It's how many small towns finance most of their budgets...nab outsiders who don't want the hassle of coming back so they just pay at the last minute or get continuances until they have to pay. It still stays on the books and the local judges look extra busy.
Geez, maybe if they have this many cases, they ought to call in Criminal Minds instead of waiting for the court system to try all these alleged offenders..."I'm sensing a pattern"...

Dumb question...has anyone checked to see if the people on the paper are related to the horse thieves? Doesn't seem to be a lot of forking off the family tree around there. Might not hurt to check!

You know, speaking of media, covering the story and 15 year olds with YouTube...RoPo, did you ever think of using a videocamera and making your own program to download to YouTube on this? That is one network that gets international attention that would carry your story and reach TONS of people, and you wouldn't have to try any more news outlets. Bet it would get more viewers than the 10 o'clock news. It's a thought. Plus you could control all of the content that goes into it. This could really ignite the issue.

Here is the thing that ticks me off to no end. I got the verification e-mail finally and guess what, there were several names(e-mail addresses) on the TO: line that means all of you that got the verification e-mail.....I have your e-mail and you have mine. That torques me off to no end.
Then to top it off, they are running scared and (using their option ) to limit the content to 15 comments. Funny I only see 3 on my screen. What gives where are the other 12 last recent ones.

We are all following this story and are seeing gross injustice going on. You are absolutely correct that you have the right to limit comments. HOWEVER, you are not limiting you removed them completely. Where are the last 15 comments? Why do you feel the need to LIMIT. This seems like a good way to get your paper some publicity and get the "home folks" on board with whatever is going on. I am glad I am so far removed from this town and hope to God that when Miki finally gets that horse back, that she gets far far away from there. I live in a hick town and NOTHING like this has ever happened here.
One would seem to think you all would enjoy this publicity and expose BOTH sides of the story. How have you given Miki a chance to tell her story. She has contacted you repeatedly and never gotten a response. Try again! No one wants to touch this story with a 10 ft pole so what gives.

We have given Mikaela an opportunity to tell her story in our newspaper. So far she has not responded.
We do have many other stories we are following besides this one. And as you see, your own blog does not fall under the same constraints as a legal newspaper. We have been advised to limit the comments we accept on each story, which is our right to do.
Once 15 or so comments are on a story, they will roll off to make room for new ones.

A few questions for you:
1) WHY did you show/display my e-mail address and everyone else's to several recipients. Do you not know the usage of BCC to send to multiple recipients? That is not good on your part. You have no right to display my e-mail to the rest of the world.
2) what happened to all the comments left earlier today. There are several of us that are members of a forum that Mikaela is on that have been following this horrid disrespect for justice since before August of last year. One lady on the forum is ready to have her baby and she found out she was pregnant at the beginning of this whole mess. That is awful!!!
I read all of the comments on there before they were removed. Why does the community seem to think we are out to bash them or give Miki bad publicity. We merely want her to get her horse back or at the very least get to physically see him and make sure he is being taken care of properly. This is total injustice and sad to say not a good reflection on your town. I have not seen such sensorship in my whole life.
I wish you guys could expend as much energy and time sorting out the facts of this case as you do sensoring the comments given here. Justice might prevail if that was the case, and you can see why we are so concerned about this case. I mean this is an excellent opportunity for your paper to make a name for itself by promoting world coverage of this injustice. And I mean there are folks in England that are following this case!
