Stolen Horse--Man is BACK in jail!

I'm glad that you are taking proper security procautions. I lived in Joplin MO for 5 years, with many friends in OK. Those good ole boys are NOT happy, they've lost a lot of "face"---not only did you WIN, but your a woman to boot. It sounds like you are doing the right things with Max. Now be careful with your own safety, since I am sure they know your car, address, etc. Better safe than sorry.

I am so thrilled for you! Did you ever find out if there ever even was a 7 year old grandson? Based on Max's condition, I really wonder if there was any truth to that or if there was a grandson, if Max was ever treated truly like *his* horse. I know when we were kids, especially at that age, the horses that were our horses received a whole other level of care. They certainly weren't put out to pasture and somewhat let go. They were kept up at the barn and treated like pets. It doesn't sound like that is what has been going on with Max, so it really makes me doubt that he has been the pet of a little kid.

Anyway, AGAIN CONGRATS! I am so very happy for you.

I agree! I would be careful, but you also can't live in fear. I definitely agree with those that are saying to not let Max's location be known, but it obviously sounds like you have that covered.

If there is any way possible, I would try to sue the pants of these people. Throughout this whole ordeal, the level of gall they have shown has been astounding. The fact that they have believed they have the right to keep your stolen horse has just been unreal. If there is any way to get something out of them for the emotional distress they have caused, I would do it.

I've been following this thread from the first post, and I feel like the whole ordeal has been an emotional roller coaster that refused to stop at the gate and let the riders off. I can't begin to imagine what RodriguezPoultry felt like during all the setbacks, waffling back & forth, stalling, and outright lies, and that's just from the court & some law enforcement officers, not to mention the *hmm... can't come up with a strong enough word for them...* homo sapiens who tried to steal and keep property that did not belong to them. I am so thrilled for Mikaela that she has finally got her horse back in her own possession. Many have weighed in with suggestions on how to help "Max" recover his full health, how to protect him and her other animals in the future, and how to get reparations for the expenses she has incurred and will incur as "Max" is brought back to health and cared for properly. As for the "getting back" at the perpetrators, only she can make the decision as to what course to follow, but I will say this: Mikaela, you are definitely one tenacious woman, and are to be commended for not giving up when faced with a situation that at times looked completely hopeless! Congratulations on FINALLY winning this battle; I hope you and "Max" live long and happy lives and can enjoy each other's company for years to come.

I am so glad you got Max back.
Sending wishes of a speedy recover for Max
and the hope he will soon forget all about
being shuffled about and neglected this past year.

Hey congradulations.

He doesn't look to be in bad shape. Course a picture is only a picture. Seems to be a big round boy, well fed.

Now I am going to pretend that I can give advice.

Hooves. My horse has/had cracked hooves. Farrier says they are superficial, unsightly, but not affecting his health at all. His right fore, was cracked all the way up to the coronary band, the other three to varying degrees. I started him on a regimen of hoof supplement. Originally using Farrier's Fomula, but that stuff is "spendy". So after comparing additives and protien content, plus consulting the vet and farrier, I switched to Dumor Hoof Supplement, about 1/3 the cost. Both were in agreement that healthy hoof growth was what he needed to get the cracks grown out. Also we went fram a 6 week to a 4 week farrier visit interval, because of the accelerated growth. Initially as the cracks grew out his hooves looked even worse, big chunks breaking off the leading edges, now most of that is gone. His has huge amounts of healthy hoof growth, but we are still looking at another 6 months before in my opinion he has healthy hoof top to bottom. Both the vet and the farrier agree that his hoof problems began with a very poor diet.

I am not pretending that I can diagnose a cracked hoof via the internet, Lord Knows, I couldn't diagnose it if it hit me in the head. What I am saying is maybe it won't be necessary for him to get shoes.

I've been skimming through this thread the past few weeks and I just wanted to stop in and say that I am SO happy for you and Max!!! Make sure you both get a little downtime to just kick back and enjoy each other - you've certainly earned it!
