The best way not to get it is pretty simple, try to avoid areas with large crowds, carry hand sanitizer with you when you don't have immediate access to soap and water, keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth. If you would get it I am sure there are some things you can help with the...

I won't say it, but in our house we try ginger or peppermint tea as well as coca cola/gniger ale and soda crackers before we try anything else.

I hope you don't get it!!!!

I'm with you. I am PHOBIC about throwing up. I hadn't been sick in more than 10 years (I know, because that's how long I've been married). I HATE throwing up!!

Then........along comes Dec. 16th, 2009 (yes, I remember the day!) I was exposed the the stomach flu. CRAP!!!! So, I decided I'd boycot food so I wouldn't be able to throw up if I got sick. Bad idea. I had the dry heaves all day - 9 times I "didn't throw up". It was miserable...so I started drinking lots of water so I'd have something to throw up.

It was awful - but it was better when I actually HAD something to throw up.

The stomach flu is airborn & highly contagious....very difficult to avoid!

Good luck & good health!

I had the stomach flu twice in December! The first time I threw up the second time I didn't. The night before I came down with it the first time I made my self eat even though I didn't feel like it. I hadn't eaten all day. I think that was the reason I threw up.

I take an herbal remedy called Oscillococcinum at the first sign of flu that really works! I've had good results from it. Good luck!

Stomach 'flu' is NOT airborne, you get the virus by touching contaminated objects and then touching your eyes, nose, or you put your hands in your mouth.

The BEST prevention is handwashing. I also keep some of those stretchy gloves on whenever I go out shopping and KEEP THEM ON in the store. Looks weird but I have not been sick with the urps in a long time!

Try not to share toothpastes either..... or keep your toothbrushes close together.

Just a quick FYI, the incubation period of a stomach bug is usually 12-48 hours, so if you do get sick you can kind of figure out where you got it from...

Good luck! I feel your pain!

I also have a phobia of throwing up. I have and I will pass out at the sight of it or sound of someone saying "I feel like I am going to throw up" or "I dont feel well". Some things to remember is...
-Do not touch your eyes with your hands
-Do not touch your mouth
-Do not touch your nose
(If you nose or something on your face is itchy, get a tissue.)
-Wash your hands before you eat and after you eat, etc
-Carry hand sanitizer
-Do not get in large crowds
-Do not share anything with anybody, pencils, pens, toothpaste, drink, food, etc
-Even cleaning your table, phones, etc in your house every evening with clorox wipes will cut down on the germs

Just be clean and think positively,

Good Luck!

(Sigh) When you make the statement that the virus is airborne; people will think that when your inhale the air around a sick person they will also get the virus. Like how you can get a cold or influenza.

You will NOT get sick just going out to the store and breathing the same air everyone else is breathing in.

I do not think the OP is going to be handling infected stool, standing over a person who is tossing their cookies, or cleaning up vomit. Yes infection is possible when you are involved in these activities.

Handwashing is your best defense; and thorough cleaning of commonly touched items like switches, remotes, phones, and bathroom surfaces.
