I've seen something like that black rock where they split a sapling an placed a rock like that in the split (point down). Then wrap the sapling an let it grow back togeather. In as few years the tree would be cut down an the rock would be a solid part of the tree making a strong hammer. Presumably to use to make spear heads with.
