Stop smoking support thread...

If there is one word of encouragement I could give it would be this: If you stick with it, there will come a time when you will no longer crave a smoke. I have heard people say that the need to smoke never goes away, but that is a lie; you can truly quit. I am now 68 years old and I haven’t had a cigarette since I was 30. Oh, and the heart palpitations? I was right – they stopped when I stopped smoking.
Thank you! This was encouragement enough for me!

Definitely still smoking today, ugh.

I, too, cannot possibly do it with a full pack. Not done trying though! Maybe when this one is gone. Bright white teeth are certainly a good selling point, though I hope I am not too yellowed yet.

I heard some terrible rumor about e-cigs exploding and hurting people? Has this ever actually happened? I'm afraid to google it, haha.
I know the feeling! That has been me all weekend and today is no different. Just stick to it! I keep telling myself stress & problems don't go away with a smoke. Today, I'm going to take a walk when I get a craving. Hang in there!

My hopes and prayers go out to you, TacomaFarms. You’ll have a couple of weeks of misery while the nicotine leaves your system. It’s much like weathering a bad cold in that it is a bad experience that we all understand, accept and survive. After that, the need will come at you in waves. It time, these waves will be less frequent, and eventually they will disappear.

Is anyone still trying or, better yet, succeeding? No cigarettes yet today, feeling good about it so far, but have only been awake for 4 hours and have the whole little farm to myself today, so very few frustrations and too much work to be bored!

Hi All, I quit smoking a little over two years ago and it was the hardest and best thing I've ever done. I had tried before but it happened for me when I REALLY wanted to quit. I used the nicorette lozenges which are amazing. I used them way longer than I was supposed to and then had to quit the nicorette but that was easier than quitting smoking. You can do it!! Its hard but i bet you've done something hard before!!!

X2!!! MY husband was on Nicorette gum and lozenges for a couple years, then switched to chewing gum, which he gnawed feverishly for a couple more years. I had chain smoked for 33 years, and quit with the antidepressant Wellbutrin. It worked so well that I stayed on it for 2 years, LOL. Seriously. Except for him, I didn't really have a support group, but always remembered the pharmacist telling me I could do it. And I did, almost 9 years ago. I think most of all, I was tired of being treated like a second class citizen. It's a tough nut to crack, but YOU CAN DO IT! Just hang in there, and take it day by day. That pharmacist also sold me a tiny bottle of cinnamon oil, and I soaked toothpicks in it, so that when that oral fixation really got to me at least there could be some hand to mouth pleasure besides food.
Good luck all. You really can!

How's everyone doing?

I am... well... doing HORRIBLE! I gave up alcohol and men, and let's just say the cigarettes reclaimed their place at the top of my to do list.

I'm going to try again after Easter when things settle down a bit, and I recover from my recent breakup. No offense to any gentlemen on here, but men are jerks sometimes.

That’s all right, TacomaFarms, life often kicks our feet out from under us, but just like you, we get back up and continue on. Keep trying – if you do, you will eventually find a way. I did and so can you. How long did you manage to stay off the cigs this round?
Hay, guess what gg706! DW told me that she is thinking about trying the E-cigs! I told her about your successful experience with them, and I suppose it has been fermenting in her mind. She said she might try it this April.
