I do not think of a animal as a person, but I do not understand killing an animal for no reason. It though, is different to kill, or put down an animal if they have a sickness that cannot be cured, or when they stop laying eggs.Ok, either a chicken is an animal. And animals are like humans so they should never be murdered, because sanctity of life argument.
Or animals are not humans and we get to decide how to handle their lives based off our own opinions.
You can't straddle both. Saying that a bird is like "culling your brother" Means that in your eyes a chicken is a human. But then you can't turn around and say "yeah I kinda understand culling when they stop laying eggs."
Am I the only one that sees the hypocrisy?
I agree.Chickens are not like humans and shouldnt be treated as humans, as with any animal. Of course ANY living being deserves a certain level of respect and care but Chickens are livestock so they have use in life and death. Culling (for almost any reason)isn't a cruelity if they are slaughtered in a humane way. I wouldn't sat a dog or cat should be treated like a human either, animals just don't have human rights because they are not like humans it's simple as that.
Sorry, if I made you all confused but I totally agree with you. I meant they should have a level of respect. I totally get that, as an animal lover myself I personally wouldn't kill my own animals at all, I just can't bring myself to but I also know I eat meat and depend on farmers who have to make those decisions daily and understand that others have a different opinion on their animals then I do.I do not think of a animal as a person, but I do not understand killing an animal for no reason. But can't they be pet livestock?I also don't view chickens as pets personally, I view them as a livestock animal.
