Store bought eggs hatch along anyone? I'm buying regular organic.

Ok this is cheating These babies are from my hens I had to add a few of mine in (of course only as a control group in this scientific experiment!

) I put these under my broody on May 24 same time as the store (WFs) eggs These very fresh eggs hatched on day 18! I cheated again because I had to go to the feed store today so while I was there I got 2 buff orpington chicks I hope to slip under my broody mama tonight! I expect IF any of my store bought eggs hatch, that they will be a few days later. If they take too long I have a back up plan. Broody number 2 is a week behind this hatch ( also sitting on some of my eggs atm)

Good luck to you all trying to hatch TJ eggs. I did that last spring and all of the ones that hatched were all Leghorns, and all boys! I decided it wasn't worth the odds so bought pullets this year to make sure I had girls.

Here is my broody with some of her chicks. They were not her eggs but she was determined to be broody so I put some eggs under her and she hatched them out.

I set 96 eggs on may 26th. I go into lockdown tomorrow on them. Last time I candled 90 of them were still good. (or too dark) Today I just found out that Amish fellow is bringing in more eggs tomorrow. I may have to get a bunch more...

What a cool idea! Ordered my first incubator last week and it should be here today or tomorrow. I was just thinking I needed a test batch before I pay for expensive eggs! I may have to hit the farmers' market this week end.... Maybe I can find some interesting colored eggs. I know I'm a little late, but I'll let you guys know if I set any.

where did you get these...I mean what state? I live in Washington...and did not see any eggs saying fertile. Asked if they had fertile eggs and they thought we were nuts! swore they didn't!

I got mine in Bakersfield, Ca. I understand that some TJ's don't carry the fertile eggs. After I left the store I wondered if any other of the cage free or free range eggs could be fertile.
The TJ eggs are a leghorn cross.

Blondvet- feel free to join in, you aren't that late!

I love all the pictures! It's nice to have something to look at during the waiting game. And thanks to all just watching. It makes me feel awesome that other are as excited as me :D
